The amount of people gloating that only 24% of Albertans want a separation referendum when nobody wanted one 10 years ago is quite something.

Its pretty clear from looking at the ridings on the different questions, that the APP really did damage to the most important of the 9 for the movement, by telling us to abstain from the 9. This was a huge mistake imo. Questions 6-9, while won't produce actual change, would provide a mandate and boost to the movement when Ottawa inevitably ignores their result like when they ignored the referendum of 2021. It looks like some of them are still neck and neck though.

I think CBC is going to have issues reporting on the Alberta referendum..... they are used to calling an election BEFORE the polls close in Alberta

I just got off my shift of being a scrutinier with the UCP for this referendum and let me tell you there has been some major incompetence on display today with Elections Alberta. Not only were they criminally understaffed, and they were rushing things through but that was causing issues with long lineups and the staff we're not checking things properly like ids, and we're just waving people through. I caught three different people on PR getting through the registration desk and we're about to be handed the ballots. The site supervisor was also yelling and berating staff publicly, and was actively swatting them, which I would call physical assault. I ultimately accept the results that come from tonight. But to accept that Elections Alberta is competent enough to run this referendum is an absolute understatement.

Before the votes are tallied, I wanted to be clear about something that they're going to try and take from us. The definition of victory. If as much as 25% elect for option 2 on the only question that matters... this is not a win for "remain." It's a victory for independence. 1/4 of the province (of which had doubled in size since this bs immigration scheme) is on board with cutting ties. That's not 2 crazy dudes in Didsbury. That's every 4th person. Maybe we won't get to further the process... but we will get to make our point clear: a huge chunk of us are so dissatisfied with the present status quo that we want to walk away from it all. From this day forth, politicians will see that number on the page and know that it they don't find a way to bring those people into the discussion, they've lost them. Don't let them redefine victory and marginalize our struggles. But of course, I want option 2 to pass.

All they do is take from Alberta, do not stand up for Alberta & do not take care of Alberta in any way. We鈥檝e spent many decades & esp. the last 8 months explaining to the federal govt that we want to talk & have grievances; not once has there been a legitimate dialogue back.

Keith is the best at dealing with CBC interviews. Amazing performance.
MUST WATCH: Keith Wilson came ready. Pressed by Matt Galloway on CBC鈥檚 The Current, Wilson delivered a powerful case for Alberta sovereignty and voting Option 2. Tough questions. Strong answers. Watch the full interview.

Thoughts on Referendum Day 2026 1. I will see this Day as a hinge of history, not because I think any vote will be decisive. Rather, it will mark the last regional protest against the coming post-national order. 2. I think historians will look back and see the decadence of the aging retiree class, the incumbent political class, and the internationalist business class as forsaking their children in favor of their class being vindicated, secured and heeded. 3. I think that the collapse of the Conservative movement in Canada has been the most surprising thing to see in this campaign. Harper's endorsement of Carney, the federal Conservatives active campaigning for Liberal Prime Minister, and the "separatist" Premier Smith giving up all of her provincial leverage in order to get some paper promises, desperate for crumbs from the federal table. Smith's actions, and those of the federal Conservatives are viewed as a major betrayal of their western base. 4. The "uneven weights and measures" of the campaign have been vivid for anyone to notice. The Lukaszuk campaign against the independence choice, was permitted to continue without following any of the campaign rules for third party advertisers (TPA's). Meanwhile the small band of merry warriors on the Independence side were headshy with concern for audits and accounting for their TPA's. "Rules for thee, etc" 5. Never in my lifetime have I seen the full court press of media, all politicians, the courts, and conglomerate businesses to oppose the self-determination of a people in Canada. The co-ordination has been epic, with at times, shades of Mao. Meanwhile, Louis Riel is a hero, and Indigenous bands are "first nations". 6. I am dumbfounded by the lack of resistance, or even critical analysis of the Prime Minister's aim to have Canada join the European Union. It is by definition, a post-national decision, while the Prime Minister campaigns against Alberta self-determination on a platform of nationalism. Nationalism leading to Post-nationalism does not sound like fidelity to the citizens of the nation. 7. The exhaustion of civilization in the West is illustrated by the gasping (but unintelligible) grip on the nostalgia of stability, rather than the exertion needed to honestly grapple with doing something new. Arrogance in wanting control, but not wanting to lift a finger to help, echoes the indictment directed at the Pharisees by Jesus, 'They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people鈥檚 shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger.'Mt 23.4. 8. A positive feature of this moment has been the willingness of many people to be stigmatized for desiring a better future on better terms. To fly the blue bore a public cost. To fly the nation-state flag cost nothing. Many made their choice on either side with thoughtful deliberation and they are to be respected. Others chose safety merely because the tall poppy will be cut down. This latter motive is not a good sign for society. 9. I have been deeply grieved to see professing "Christians" demoralize, stigmatize and shame simple Christians who want change for the better, believe in prayer, and want to offer a better life for their families. The fact that these simple Christians were shamed by the political class Conservatives (!) illustrates what Jesus said, "a person's enemies will be those of his own household."Mt 10:36. 10. I am just as confident in the vigor and victory of the kingdom of Christ today than I was yesterday, and I will have the same confidence tomorrow d.v."Jesus shall reign where'er the sun does its successive journeys run" (Watts)

Its amazing how little the reasons for the separatist movement or even for the other 9 questions, are mentioned by the media. Local papers included, they even seem worse than big TV.
The world knows about the Alberta Referendum today. The news stories are from the news wires: AP, CP, Reuters etc. None of the stories talk about the Canadian constitutional inequities that are the root of Alberta鈥檚 grievances. But they know something is up. No pipeline or pinky swear promises will fix the constitutional inequities. When they finally investigate that, they will realize that Alberta has tried for over 100 years to get a fair deal, and the only option left is secession using the constitutional path made by Quebec.

Does Thomas Lukaszuk鈥檚 vision of reconciliation include blocking Alberta sovereignty advocates on X? How does he expect to reconcile with people he refuses to engage with, while repeatedly making inflammatory accusations about the movement?

馃毃 OUTRAGEOUS: A Forever Canadian rally featuring Prime Minister Mark Carney is being held at Edmonton鈥檚 EXPO Centre, an active advance polling location. Political rallies have no place at voting locations. This raises serious concerns about election integrity.
