The Hunger Games meets Irish faerie folklore - this is dystopian fantasy at its most gripping, and grimly imaginative. The Call (13+/YA) by @TheCallYA, @DFB_storyhouse Gripping reads that give back, shop now: lovereading4kids.co.uk/book/…

The social function of the economics profession is to explain, over and over again, that your boss is actually right and that you don't really want the things you want, and you're secretly happy to be abused by the system. 1/

Seriously one of the best YA novels written. Terrifying because of its undercurrent of #truth.
I can't believe it. With scary season just around the corner, I haven't reminded you all to read my terrifying novel, The Call. Read it for halloween! Buy it for a friend. Give your worst enemy a copy with the last chapter missing. You know you want to. I want you to. I want...

So I hoofed my way through The Invasion by @TheCallYA within 48 hours of owning it! Just in time, too, as all the gorgeous new books I ordered for the library last week arrived. Making a start on what promises to be a delectable read by @hafsahfaizal - A Tempest of Tea!

"I understand why you're doing it but for heaven's sake... ...and then you see the scenes in Spain." It's a relief to see @mrjamesob connecting the dots. So few journalists are. Direct action from ordinary people is needed more than ever to force those in power to act.

No one can say they didn't know. No one can claim blindness to this suffering. No one can pretend their ears did not hear the cries of children. But when it's over, and history books are written. Those who were silent or celebrated this, will say to their grandchildren: "Wasn't that a tragedy" "We had no idea of the horrors" "We never supported it" "Had we known what was happening....". Well technology has given us one wonderful tool: information. History will no longer be written by the victors, but the people of Palestine who documented and recorded every aspect of their torture and annihilation. Who documented and recorded this for the world to never forget, to expose silence as support and to make sure their plight will be told in one way, and one way only: the truth. 📸: Gaza, yesterday. Waiting for aid.

The Internet informs me that FIFTEEN YEARS AGO this week I was hanging with these guys in Belfast. Which means GAME OF THRONES started production just over fifteen years ago (they were in Malta and Scotland for ~3 weeks before going to Belfast). #GameOfThrones #GoT15

Stonecold masterpiece! One of the few books where the sequel just about matches the original.

Update! Finished it. What a stonking read that was! Cue much sitting around, twiddling thumbs until book two turns up on my doorstep…
So I’m on page 153 of The Call by Peadar O’Guillan - @TheCallYA - and I don’t think I’ve actually taken a breath since I started. Even Eddie the cat is cowering in terror (or being annoyed that I’m disturbing his sleep, one or the other). Help!
