In the News: What could greater representation of Black women in the U.S. Senate mean for policymaking? A new USA TODAY story examines that question as Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton campaigns for an open U.S. Senate seat. If elected in November, Stratton would serve alongside Sens. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware and Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland — bringing the number of Black women serving simultaneously in the Senate to three. USA TODAY spoke with Michael Strawbridge, assistant professor of political science and Weidenbaum Center faculty research fellow, about what that representation could mean for policymaking, including attention to maternal and women’s health.. 지난 1년간 agentic AI의 발전 그 어느 순간보다도 이 “we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models”가 기괴하게 내 발밑을 조각내는 기분이며, 내가 알던 세계는 정말 끝나버렸다는 끔찍한 자각에 몸서리치고 있다..
We congratulate Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster on their remarkable mathematical work. We (the researchers and the agents) did not see any of their work through any means until they released it publicly — in particular, no specific user data was accessed in order to solve this problem. While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models. However, our proofs differ significantly and even the precise results proved are different in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).

Just went down a rabbit hole to learn about how William Henry Hunt (Jr.) went from deeply connected & powerful Montanan (late 1800s) to governor of Puerto Rico by 1901 to federal judge by 1904. A combo of territorial expertise + family connections + right time-right place!

New paper: every law in America is technically public. But not really, until now! With @DenisPeskoff at UC Berkeley, we built a corpus of ~every publicly accessibly city and county law, and released a huge chunk of it! 2.2 million laws, you're (probably) covered in it! 🧵

Ran Hirschl was a giant in the field of comparative constitutional law, and one of the most generous and supportive scholars I’ve known. When a great scholar dies, I like to take the time to read their some of their important work. So that’s what I’m doing this morning (1/2)
🙏🏽 We have lost Ran Hirschl, a great person, scholar, and teacher. He passed away earlier this week on Tuesday, May 19. My condolences to his partner and wife, Ayelet Shachar, and to their son, Shai. 📝 The University of Toronto has published this announcement: politics.utoronto.ca/news/me…. 🕊️ May Ran rest in peace.

Related to the below, I would encourage law reviews to consider commitments to publishing shorter pieces. Eg, rather than saying ‘nothing over 30k words,’ as many now do, say: ‘we are looking for at least two pieces that are less than 7k words.’ Norms would gradually change.
But how to deal with these problems, @nicholas_bagley?
