The GBV issue will not be solved by telling women how to behave in order to prevent being killed by their intimate partners, it will be solved if we as society decide to to take it seriously enough to punish the perpetrators, even if they are talented and you like their art.

The story of Gauteng is a sad & sorry tale, I’m afraid.
What’s going on?
We’re witnessing the collapse & degradation of services & infrastructure on the daily!
No/erratic water, hectic potholes (I just hit a huge one 😭), broken traffic & street lights, filthy streets!
Have you seen Louis Botha Ave lately? Shocking!
Has #Pikitup simply given up in some areas/ don’t we care about bylaws?🤷🏻♀️
Not to mention rampant crime.
We’re facing a massive crisis in this province. Anyone listening?

The "we can't walk, we can't run" we can't take Bolt or Uber... Just hit me in the chest.
Basically you can't leave your home and some women aren't even safe there!!!

I’m tired of being told to be more vigilant as a woman living in South Africa. I’m tired of being told to carry a a weapon and check my surroundings. We can’t run, we can’t walk, we can’t take Ubers by ourselves. It’s terrifying.
On the evening of 14 November 2024, around 9om, a woman requested an Uber in Cape Town. While on her Uber ride, the driver's route took her toward the intersection near the Castle of Good Hope and the Taxi Station in Cape Town CBD. When they stopped at a red traffic light, the driver made no attempt to move when the light turned green.
Before the woman could process what was happening, four men forced their way into the vehicle. They brutally attacked her, holding her at knifepoint while attempting to rape her. The Uber driver, disturbingly complicit, sat silently and made no effort to intervene.
Despite the overwhelming odds, the woman fought back fiercely and managed to escape the situation. Her injuries required hospital treatment.
Following the attack, a case was opened, and the incident was reported to Uber. While the company initially contacted the woman, she has yet to receive any meaningful follow-up or support. Uber's silence has been deafening.
Shockingly, SAPS has reportedly confirmed that this incident mirrors other similar cases that have been reported. This was not only a robbery but points to an attempted kidnapping.
The ongoing violence against women using e-hailing services is a growing crisis. This latest attack is another reminder that women’s safety can not be taken for granted.
While Uber markets its new "Teen Function," it fails to take accountability for its inadequate vetting process. Once again, the driver’s details did not match the person registered on Uber. Women For Change stands with all survivors and will continue to amplify their voices. We demand immediate and tangible action to ensure the safety and protection of all women. It’s time to #HoldUberAccountable and call for safer rides for everyone. #WomenForChange
