Darshit Vora, GP at @sparrowcapvc, has been in VC since 2014. he built Sparrow from a ₹4 crore fund to ₹475 crore, backing 40+ startups like @superhealth_ind, @gokwik and Apnamart along the way.
one of the things we’ve always wanted for our founders is one-on-one time with partners of venture funds.
yesterday, for week 5 at @residencyBLR, Darshit did exactly that. he sat with every founder, went through their decks, answered every question, helped whoever was stuck figure out their next step, and connected a few of them to people on the spot. easily one of the best sessions our founders have had.
one founder asked how to pitch autonomous drones when the market in India barely exists yet.
he said- don’t just build a story the investor has to buy. say what you actually believe. and be ready for “how will you crack that market?”
he was v particular about the co-founder checklist. he said it's like marriage and you've to agree on-
> what each of you needs to live on
> what's your working style
> building in public, or not
> who’s CEO, and whether everyone’s okay with it
> whether you can all go 2-3 years without a salary
thank you Darshit, for giving every founder your time. looking forward to hosting you again :)
p.s. applications for our next cohort are open, link in the comments.

at pre-seed, a VC isn't evaluating your product. they're evaluating you.
Raghav from @AntlerIndia told our founders exactly how, today at @residencyBLR
VCs look in a founder for audacity, grit, agency, clarity and the unfair advantage they may have.
then comes the market.
and before any VC writes a cheque, they need to believe 3 things:
> this will be a large outcome
> you're the best team to build it
> and, now is the right time
he also talked about some practical stuff.
> analysts skim 1,000 decks. so one slide headline should tell your whole story.
> your first 2-3 slides carry the pitch. big market + right team, and you have the room.
> write a "founder document" before you touch the deck. brain-dump everything you know about the problem, the market and your go-to-market.
> and, the fastest way to a VC meeting is a referral from one of their portfolio founders.
thank you Raghav for dropping by the house and sharing your insights :)

demo day #2 @residencyBLR founders track.
this friday we hosted @Vineet_Agarwal_ from @Razorpay Ventures (prev. @OlaElectric & @AntlerIndia)
every founder showcased their progress, and he gave feedback right there in the room and we discussed on:
> how to plan your fundraise ?
> how to decide your valuation?
> how big your market needs to be for a VC to care
> why revenue multiples differ across SaaS, hardware and services
> planning dilution, with 10-15% as a sane baseline
> why access and distribution beat tech in the early days
> one signed customer or an advance payment de-risks the whole round
> positioning in a crowded market, and knowing what competitors are saying about themselves
> why deep tech design doesn't have to feel cold and clinical
he also said every founder in the room has one thing going really well, and everyone should be collaborating with each other. that's the whole idea behind the residency.
thank you Vineet, for the warmth. absolutely loved the insights.
