we’re gonna see a glut of tech-themed media hit the market in the next ~2 yrs. most of it is going to be incredibly bad. hollywood writers hate this world & do not understand it. and therefore cannot write abt it well.

First they came for the software engineers and I said nothing for I was not a software engineer. Then they came for the mathematicians and I said nothing for I was not a mathematician. Then they came for the lawyers and I said "make sure you get all the lawyers"

the mistake so many people make is seeing university professors as intellectuals when they’re actually employees at a combination hedge fund and healthcare conglomerate that operates a small luxury resort/sports franchise where student-customers occasionally take classes

What’s happening in America is roughly equivalent to the yearbook committee and theater kid types getting rocked by a football team and chess club alliance.

The media is still showing children huddled in the deep snow of Gaza. And interviewing Gazans whose $1m beachfront house, in the “open air concentration camp”, got destroyed merely because it had 9 mortar tubes and 348 mortar rounds stored in the basement.

1. 8% of the entire healthcare spend goes to doctors. Defund your neurosurgeon will go a lot worse than defunding the police did. 2. Surprise billing is a function of narrow networks - basically scam insurances that instead of negotiating contracts with doctors, were happy to leave patients with the bill knowing how that would turn out. thehealthcareblog.com/blog/2… 3. The idea that the majority of anesthesiologists are fraudulent in any significant way based on 20% of anesthesiologists having a propensity to round procedures to a number ending in 0 or 5 to get an avg of $60 extra per case when most are salaried by their employer is one of the dumber assertions I’ve seen health policy wonks make.

I have nothing personal against Doctors and believe that most get into it for the right reasons. Many may not even be aware of how their guild organizations like the AMA and other associations use their power but objectively they are a huge part of the cost problem

Me: “It’s illegal for doctors get get kickbacks for writing prescriptions.” Commenter: “Nuh uh, my mother’s friend worked in a docs office 20 years ago and that doctor got a private jet to the superbowl and sat next to Michael Jordan just for writing a prescription for viagra.”

This physician's appeal to United Healthcare to authorize anti-nausea/vomiting meds on behalf of a pediatric patient on chemo was denied. You don’t hate these insurance companies enough.

Democratic path forward: Jettison the commies, Hamas fans and designer gender crowd. No more land acknowledgements. No more trying to please everyone. We have a point of view. Fight for normal people. Whatever gets in the way of that, we stop doing.

Why both parties believe they’ve going to win: Dems: -Selzer/heartland polling/WA primary->Blue Wall -Dobbs/women -final NYT/Siena polls (mostly) -a belief that they have the late momentum GOP: -early voting data -betting markets -national polls tightening -a belief that there will be another polling error

Firms have the right to set the price for products in a way that maximizes revenue with NO explanation owed to ANYONE. Customers decide to purchase if they find value. That’s it. Golden law of capitalism. Fuck with it and bad things happen. Doesn’t matter what the product is.
not known publicly. for many years i attempted to acquire mifepristone and raise the price of it, substantially. i feel like something as serious as an abortion--a medical emergency fraught with philosophical issues--should be done rarely and treated as other medicines in this category. instead, mifepristone costs less than one day of a modern cancer treatment regimen. prices should match their value. ending a life should not be a trivial choice and the current price is outlandishly low for the importance of the procedure. the power within the medicine should not be priced like a tylenol. cc: value theory of price cost theory of price labor theory of price

I'm sorry, it's too late Before the strike, I had zero opinions on the state of US ports and dock automation Now I'm a radical. Now I want all the ports automated tomorrow, a managed plan for firing 90% of dock workers, and I want Elon Musk and Mitt Romney in charge of it
US dockworkers agree to suspend strike until January 15, 2025
