January was our first-ever profitable month. I’m proud of our growth, and am excited for the future. We’re now driving between 500-1000 interviews and job offers per month for customers. BUT, the screenshot doesn’t tell the whole story… 👉 Our profit is still only around $7.6K. 👉 My first-ever paycheck (!!!) is for $3.8K — not exactly life-changing money in Los Angeles. 👉 I’d spent the past 1.5 years draining my savings to bootstrap the company and pay da billz, and it will take a long time to recoup that 👉 If I’d taken a job instead, I would’ve made ~$300-500K in the same timeframe without draining my savings To put it into perspective: if you have a SaaS that’s doing only $3K MRR, but has been profitable w/ high margins since Day 1, you’ve made FAR more money than I have. I’m not saying any of this to poop on my own parade — I’m stoked to be where we are! — but I still think it’s important to share the reality behind the flashy Stripe screenshots, which is often not as glossy as it seems.

Most women have #SquadGoals Women who build have #QuadGoals Leg’s fuckin’ goooooo! 🦵
This might be the worst or best financial decision I’ve made in the last 3 years. @marclou, French indie hacker, has raised $103,000 auctioning his body space for HYROX race. I’m (well, samslist.com) $8,000 of that. Bidding started at $1,000 per spot and doubles for each raise. Auction ends in one hour. Let’s see if this is the best or worst financial decision I’ve made. Big fan of the left quad! 😂💪

People who use Instinct: what do you love about it so much other than the SMS interface? I have Instinct already, but have not yet noticed much of a difference vs. grok bot or Hermes yet, so would like to better understand the hype. Esp when I’m pretty reliant on computer use with those other two.

Have thought abt this a lot. Make America Fill Again. It kills me that bold ideas like a Lower Manhattan fill extension are immediately dismissed by politicians as gimmicks rather than solutions worth considering to solve affordability. Especially in NY where, unlike SF, seismic liquefaction risk is not a major concern. More on the Manhattan extension proposal: dezeen.com/2022/01/18/manhat…
Checked out Little Island today in NYC. It’s an incredible public amenity on land that didn’t exist before. Some of the most iconic neighborhoods in America were built on land fill. Grant Park in Chicago, the Marina and Embarcadero in SF, much of lower Manhattan. We can literally create more waterfront land if we want to.

Not to mention critical climate resilience benefits. NYC is already investing billions in fortifying the lower Manhattan shoreline: edc.nyc/project/lower-manhat… Why: By the 2050s, 37% of Lower Manhattan will be at risk from storm surge. Almost 50% of properties will be at risk from the surge as well. By the year 2100, sea level is projected to have risen six feet (1.8 metres) in the area, with 20 per cent of streets of Lower Manhattan exposed to tidal inundation.

Berkeley is doing a good job of adding housing while preserving its history. This proposal would leave the landmarked 1877 and 1892 Bartlett Houses untouched while adding three new homes in the rear of the property. The plan includes: • Relocating and restoring a historic stable into a new home • Building a new three-story duplex • Preserving both landmark Victorian houses exactly where they are This development combines historic preservation + housing and I love it. I also love the other Victorians next door. 📍Berkeley

Joe spent 13 months applying to jobs on his own. Then he signed up for ApplyAll. In one week he got more interviews than the past 13 months of job-searching on his own. Be like Joe. xitter.cf/GSxKineticKnif/status/…
Big shoutout to @AnthonyCastrio over at ApplyAll for the great interaction. I decided to use his services after some conversation and I’ve had more interviews scheduled in the coming days than I’ve had in the last 13 months! Checkout applyall.com

Companies are tattooing job seekers. Candidates are faking tattoos just to get an interview. If you really want to get Exxon mobile tattoo'd on your forehead maybe preview how it will look first using our new corporate tattoo preview tool. Only on ApplyAll.
