British politics is running on empty: lifeless parties lacking vision for the future, angry citizens with nowhere to turn. If Brexit was about 'taking back control', why has so little changed? Our new book, TAKING CONTROL, has the answers. politybooks.com/bookdetail?b… 🧵(1/13)

Burnham is right that we should pay carers much better wages for the important work they do. But he immediately subordinates that point to his party's globalist preference for importing workers to do the caring. And this should tell us that there is no serious policy to come from his warm words about careworkers, because foreign workers from poorer countries can always be found to do it cheaper, and keep the wages down. If we paid our carers the wages we should then our old folk would be looked after by people they have shared this island with all their lives instead of foreigners from distant places who have just turned up hoping to improve their lives and send some money back home.
🚨 WATCH: Andy Burnham says carers should be the "best paid people in society, not the worst" "Many people from other countries have been caring for my dad. I want those carers to know that we appreciate you"

New on TNS. @peteray21 on why populism will disappoint those who put their hopes in it: "The spirit of populism just isn’t enough to achieve its own inchoate democratic and egalitarian aims. To achieve them populism would have to become something other than itself; it would have to become nation-building." thenorthernstar.online/2026/…

A refreshing article. Quite philsophical. I strongly agree with the thesis that we must build a positive vision of the future. The negative of 'reverse globalism, be anti-woke' will not be enough.

If you're sympathetic to the populist rejection of our woeful governing class, but you also find populism less than entirely satisfactory... Please spend some reflective time with this 👇🏼 argument. It offers us a way through.

'Populism is a reaction to the failure of the old technocratic globalist order, one that gives expression to that decaying order’s discontents, but struggles to articulate an independent and inspiring political vision.' In The Northern Star

Great new piece on the @TakingControl - on why building the nation will necessarily have to take us beyond the limits of national populism. thenorthernstar.online/2026/…

This is why the UK is pushing to heavily regulate or ban X. Without it, many of us would remain unaware of what’s really happening on the streets. But one viral post and the authorities are shamed into taking action. How inconvenient for them.
🚨NEW: Birmingham police are now carrying out an investigation to identify people involved in an assault of a white male in Birmingham city centre after footage of the incident went viral on X

New on TNS. Brexit has exposed our political parties and our bureaucratic elites as having no ideas adequate to Britain’s needs, argues @peteray21. The only solution is forward to Brexit Max. thenorthernstar.online/2026/…

Surveys show that, overall, British women want more children than they are currently having. @peteray21 argues that following the death of patriarchy, the relationship btwn motherhood and women's freedom has changed. And that we have a strong national interest in understanding this. thenorthernstar.online/2026/…

Brilliant. Best thing I've read in months. Really important reckoning with gender ideology, gender equality, and the need to create the "freedom to" have families through far reaching reforms.
New on TNS @peteray on women's freedom, reproductive stagnation and the national interest. It's a long read but in brief, he argues that the British nation has an interest in its own prosperity and survival and this requires us to increase not just productivity but reproductivity. To increase Britain's very low birth rate the state will have to take measures to expand women's freedom and equality, and these will require a new politics of nation-building that honours and rewards motherhood and childcare for the great public benefit they are. thenorthernstar.online/2026/…

Long but v. worthwhile read for the weekend - how expanding women's freedom is the key to reversing demographic decline. That consolidation of women's rights can only happen on the national level - meaning that women's freedom is the national interest.

New on TNS. A long read for the weekend on a vital question of national interest that is largely overlooked: the fundamental relationship between women's freedom, motherhood and nation-building. thenorthernstar.online/2026/…
