The superior use of land is to not use it for anything. There is a carbon opportunity cost to using it for farming. The expansion of soybean and palm oil especially has been a key driver of tropical deforestation. We shouldn't be putting those crops in cars.

WRI's latest report projects a “business as usual” 54% increase in overall wood demand between 2010 and 2050. Producing this wood would require harvesting an area of forest land the size of the continental U.S. bit.ly/3Oo3kVi

Reclaimed and recycled wood doesn't seen to even get a mention? Is the percentage so small it's not even worth noting?

Excellent dismantling of the Biden biofuels mandate by ⁦@Dlashof⁩. Dan is an honest thinker who used to be a biofuels advocate but changed his mind when he saw evidence he was wrong. (This will be a theme in my book - not everyone is like Dan!) wri.org/insights/us-renewabl…

What about crop-based biofuels? 🌿 Filling planes up with these fuels has massive implications for UK land use. Up to 68% of the UK's farmland would be needed to grow enough biofuel crops to replace all the UK's jet fuel... 2/

The subhed is literally: Cultivated meat doesn't cause cancer, so why isn't this industry that doesn't exist yet answering questions that nobody has asked yet?

Scientists say eating beef won't make you moo or crap in the grass, but beef is made of organisms that do just that - why is the industry avoiding the question?

The basic argument of the latest attack on cultivated meat is that it sounds kinda cancer-ish. Also that this 7-year-old industry with products in zero grocery stores worldwide hasn’t done long-term studies. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

This @NYTimes piece on dispelling climate myths perpetuates a big one. @Sander_vdLinden we gotta talk about organic food! Its 20ish% yield penalty makes organic ag a climate loser. It's good for some other things, but not that. cc: @MikeGrunwald nytimes.com/interactive/2022…

A set of proposals to revise & update EU laws to bring them in line with goal to slash emissions by 55% by 2030 could cause more deforestation both at home & abroad due to its bioenergy provisions, said paper co-authored by @TSearchinger. #FoodSystems news.thin-ink.net/p/the-land…

Unfortunately, 'fine woody debris' is the least of our problems. EU policy is leading to vast quantities of whole trees being burnt in the name of 'renewable energy' - see the photos from a majority of Member States in this @ForestDefence report. forestdefenders.eu/wp-conten… 10/
