Emissions depend on different scenarios of wood supply and use for energy. Emissions mostly ignored because many LCAs and sci. papers incorrectly net effects of new harvests against growing forests elsewhere. They would grow anyway so does not reduce effect of new harvests.
European scientists are urging EU Parliament @markuspieperMEP @EPPGroup to fix #bioenergy rules in the EU's #Fitfor55 plan to protect #climate, avoid #deforestation, protect biodiversity & #FoodSecurity in Europe and globally. #NetZero.

Some concl's new report: (1) EU already outsources deforestation (2) Fit for 55 likely increases that, why? - turns 20% EU cropland to energy crops; (3) increases wood imports for energy 4X, (4) loses half EU diverse grassland.
New Princeton report: “Europe’s Land Future?" How EU can and must reduce its “land footprint” to protect climate and biodiversity globally, how Fit for 55 does the opposite & increases global deforestation, and how fixed. See report and highlights here scholar.princeton.edu/tsearc…
This talk in Eindhoven presents new Princeton report, Europe's Land Future? How Europe can improve carbon and biodiversity within Europe and tropics by stopping its "outsourcing" of land, how Fit for 55 outsources yet more and how fixed.youtube.com/watch?v=tYIuARKj…

Sign up to see my talk by internet at 13:30 CET today at Eindhoven Univ. Tech. How EU could save land, reforest, improve. biodiversity. Also how Fit for 55 plan now instead devotes land to bioenergy & outsources deforestation. But also how fixed.

Important paper just before X-Mas showed arable cropland expansion at 5 times the right reported by FAO. Nearly all climate strategies require immediate stop. See this blog explaining its significance and join the WRI webinar next Wednesday about it.

Paul Farmer may be the greatest man I ever met (although just once). Staggered by all his achievements, moral, social and professional. His life should be the model for us all. nytimes.com/2022/02/21/obitu…
