Same client. More requests. Same fee.
An owner asked TCR how to stop his team saying yes to everything. Another owner shared whatās working in her firm, and he left with a plan.
Stuck on scope? Ask the room.

Am I sharing my first article? Yes.
Am I making one of those hip black & white images to go with it? Absolutely not.
Itās about pricing tiers, and why you might not need three.
A prospect wants proactive advice, but fewer conversations. Would you take them on?
An owner in TCR passed. Nine days later, another member turned one down for the same reason.
Before you say yes, ask your peers in TCR.

ICYMI: TCR turns 2 this month!
@FortWayneCPA and @RDriscollCPA started TCR to create a private space for bookkeeping, accounting & tax firm owners to come together and talk about the real things going on in their firms. It has proven to be exactly that over the past two years and there's even more to come!
New members: use BIRTHDAY at checkout in October for 20% off your first six months.

I found the buyer for my firm on X and I've been wanting other owners to find each other too! So, I started with a form and a spreadsheet, then kept building with Codex.
Now the Firm Exchange is open to EVERYONE, with free browsing, introductions and matching alerts!
Brought to you by @TCRTalks, where firm owners build connections and share advice.

Until we started scheduling tax prep, I didn't have any way of calculating our capacity. Scheduling, and seeing x number of tax returns to complete x number of days was helpful, but there are other non-tax tasks to consider. So, I built a capacity calculator. Check it out and let me know if you like it.

In 2024, I causally posted on #TaxTwitter ādoes anyone want to buy a virtual bookkeeping/tax firmā and was absolutely shocked to receive 141 LOIs. My firm was sold within a week or two!
So, I thought Iād try again, only this time, see if I could help connect other accountants to each other! I asked recently if any accountants were interested in buying or selling a firm⦠I really didnāt know what to do with all of your responses⦠I just knew that I wanted to find a way to introduce you to each other and see if what happens for me could happen for you too!
Any accountant who wants to buy or sell a firm (or even a portion of their book) can be listed on our private board in The Collaboration Room. Our members are firm owners (the best of the best!) and they can click a button to be introduced to you if theyāre interested. Pretty cool, huh?
Iām always trying to think of how we can provide more value to our @TCRTalks members and Iām hoping this will make a difference in someoneās life, just like it did for me!

A few weeks ago I wrote about giving each client a shared room where their agent and ours could work from the same context. I walked through it with a group of firm owners at @TCRTalks this week, and built this visual to show how I'm thinking about it.
There are three spaces in the video, and each has a different purpose.
The client's space is their own. Their business, their family, their plans, and a place to explore ideas with their agent.
They should be able to think through something privately with their agent before deciding to bring us into it.
The shared engagement space is where we come together, both client and accountant + their agents. Current financials, tax returns, documents we're waiting on, decisions we've made and why, and what we're working toward. Both agents can work from that shared context, with permissions around what each can see and do.
Then there's our space as the accountant. Our workpapers, internal notes, research, and review process. A lot of that stays with us. We choose what moves into the shared space, just as the client chooses what comes across from theirs.
That's why the connections between the rooms matter. We're deciding what gets shared, for what purpose, and who/which agents can act on it.
I think of it as radical observability. The client and their agent can see where the engagement stands and understand what's happening, while we both still have room to do our own work.
The goal is for clients to be able to self-inform. If they're lying in bed wondering about hiring someone or buying a truck, their agent has the context to help them start exploring it. When they're ready to bring us in, we can work through the decision with them.
This is a concept walkthrough of the agent native accountant/client relationship I'm building towards.
Tax brackets don't tell the whole story.
Today at 1 ET, @khayden5 walks through her Retirement Tax Mapper that shows how capital gains, NIIT, IRMAA, phase-outs, and SALT interact, and what that means for the next dollar of a client's income.

Please repost!
We are considering selling our CPA firm for the right price.
Please contact me by email at [email protected] if you have strong interest.
2 Million in annual revenue. Over 40% of the work is bookkeeping and payroll. 3 owners. 2 considering stepping away after transition period and 3rd willing to stay for many years.
Over the last 15 years the owners have taken on average 57% of the total revenue home.
Thanks!

Why is it so hard?! Maybe it all comes down to confidence in the value weāre providing, which is really what @cbarmorecpaās pricing session in @TCRTalks came down to I feel likeā¦

How it startedā¦
My daughter was ripping pages out of my notebook last night (typical Thursday evening activity around here) and when I was picking up the scraps later, I found this.
My original plan for @TCRTalks!
Shout out to @TheDancingCPA, @IraGilligan, @LoZabransky, and Ashley. @FortWayneCPA and I had big plans for you, apparently š
So cool to see where we started and where we are now! Members describe @TCRTalks as the perfect balance between technical and warm/nonjudgmental, which makes me so happy!
Wouldnāt be where we are today without #TaxTwitter š
Also, donāt I have the nicest, girliest handwriting?! š¤¦āāļø I blame it on being left-handed!

One of my old employees reached out to me looking for a new job. I posted what she's looking for in @TCRTalks and within 2 hours, 6 firm owners had reached out to her to schedule an interview! Now THAT'S the power of community. š„°
Before everyone closes their laptops for the weekend, we want to highlight an awesome session from @Eligabiff coming up on Monday.
Most firm owners donāt need more time. They need to stop doing the wrong tasks.

One of the biggest takeaways from our Claude & AI Agents session with @IsaacCP9 of @meetopzer is that permissions matter.
As firms connect tools like Gmail to AI, you need clear boundaries around what AI can do on its own, what needs approval, and what should stay off-limits.
