England is forgetting that education policy should be based on evidence and informed by experience - my first Substack piece amvspielman.substack.com/p/g…

You don’t have to count goals and assists because there are tools that do it for you.

Obviously I meant *ill* thought through.

I’m not quite sure that I can take anything from that SOS speech. Even reading it back it doesn’t actually make sense. I very much suspect it was subject to late editing. I also thought it ill-advised to start a speech saying you’re expecting a hostile reaction.

It’s amazing how views can diverge. I know Emily V thought it good but most people I spoke to thought the speech incoherent and a mishmash of big ideas I’ll thought through - as demonstrated by the inadequate answers to questions she will have seen in advance.

Oh, yeah I think that's whatever the person using the term wants it to be.

Is a debate that is over 100 years old. RS Peters summarised it perfectly for me when he said words to the effect of "progressive educators, because of understandable emphasis on the centrality of the child, care more about the manner of education, than the matter of education"

I was in the Labour Party and canvassed during the election.

Any chance of engaging with those of us who have seen this cause education standards to decline in our long careers? So many of us would be happy to help, free, because we want things to work for those who are most vulnerable.

I'll work with literally any politician who wants to change things for the better. I'm going to northern ireland and hosting some politicians from there, and there are various opposition politicians interested. Of course I'll tell Lab what I think. They aren't listening though.

I think that's a butchering of every individual's right to what humanity passes down, and an impoverishment of an education I believe we should be giving to every child. But also, democracy. 🤷‍♂️

I am starting to think that there is zero chance of the current SOS talking about the importance of knowledge and meaning it - especially given the perspective of number 10. They are clearly all in on employability and that schools are to prepare children for work.

For over a year, I have engaged in some form of exercise on almost literally every day - usually the gym, five a side with a bunch of dads, and training for a marathon. And yet it is impossible to lose weight because bread exists.

Stuart Lock retweeted
Shot / Chaser This stuff isn't about "children talking in lessons". It's about whether or not politicians understand what improves outcomes for students. Pushing schools to groovy but nebulous ideas leads to worse results. @LucyMPowell h/t @StuartLock @Trivium21c

I also read this today from 2019: ‘Following the Oracy Cambridge publication Oracy Across the Welsh Curriculum, Wales has a new curriculum that gives oracy equal status with reading and writing as a means of learning across the curriculum’ h/t: @Trivium21c

Sure. I was in the Labour Party and knocked on doors. As shadow minister Wes was going to visit my school and his advisor is a top person. But Bridget went backwards once in office and it has got worse since.
