I will be landing in Johannesburg soon. This is the conversation between me and my driver Nelson - who has become a brother to my family. Nelson owns Sihle Tours. I have known him for years and met him when he was contracted to The Big Debate. Back in 2011. He now owns Sihle Tours. Guys, I promise you, this is your guy - corporate and private bookings. He does tours to the Kruger Park, Winelands, Vic Falls, EVERYTHING. When he heard I'd driven myself to Nasrec for G20, he wasn't impressed. He was worried about my jetlag. He won't let me catch an Uber from OR Tambo to Sandton. Brian was also at home recently and Nelson wasn't available but he sent someone to drive him around. I love him. His contact details coming up. For now, this is Nelson, the founder of Sihle Tours. Look at 3rd frame. He doesn't play!

What happens when a place of pride begins to decline? Do you shrug your shoulders or do you choose to do something about it? In this latest episode of The Hope Dealers, I’m telling a story about how a group of people including alumni, government, business and community members are coming together to fix schools. It began at Jeppe High School when old boy Rob Katzen got involved. Through EduSafe, he is now applying the lessons learnt at Jeppe to other schools serving Alexandra such as Sandringham High School. youtube.com/watch?v=s3E1Jvhq…

Yesterday I was invited by the CEO of Microsoft South Africa, Vukani Mngxati, to be a guest at their town hall. It was a walk down memory lane. Microsoft is one of the companies that shaped who I am - and in particular how I lead. When I had the privilege of leading Microsoft South Africa, our mission was clear: to empower individuals, businesses and government to realise their full potential. That purpose informed everything we did. In South Africa we focused on being relevant to the country we served. We tackled youth unemployment through Student2Business. We made Microsoft software available at no cost to public schools. We supported emerging entrepreneurs through BizSpark. And we trained teachers and principals to use technology to improve education outcomes. Purpose first. Relevance to South Africa always. Today Microsoft is one of the global leaders in Artificial Intelligence, with a distinct advantage in Knowledge Graphs. Their focus should be on the emerging ontology layer that will determine whether AI systems actually understand the world they operate in. My message to the team was simple: use that advantage to enable more local partners in the AI ontology space. Give South African companies a real seat at the Knowledge Graphs layer. That is a genuine win-win for local partners and for Microsoft South Africa. Their team is as smart and as patriotic as ever. It is always a pleasure to be in a room with motivated people who are prepared to give the company discretionary effort. That spirit is still there. I wish my brother Vukani the very best as he takes this great company to the next level in our geography. South Africa needs institutions that combine world-class capability with a deep commitment to this country. The next chapter should be written with local partners at the centre. #LocalRelevance #Microsoft #BSG

We hope the authorities at @HealthZA and their colleagues at other departments will investigate this matter further.
I just heard from a friend that there’s an alcoholic drink called Marble Ice that is devastating people in Soweto. What kind of drink is it, who produces & sells it & are the consumers aware of its dangers? Apparently it has claimed lives of those addicted to it. How true is it?

In light of SA being “disinvited” from the G7 Summit in France in May, how do we resolve the deepening diplomatic crisis between South Africa and the USA? We clearly need an adult in the room. Is it time for business to step in?

Starlink has committed to a R500 million investment to connect 5,000 rural schools with free, high-speed internet, benefiting more than 2.4 million learners each year. But it is still on hold. Why? Because South African regulations require 30% local Black ownership for telecom licenses. South African farmers and rural communities are asking the government to approve Starlink. In many remote areas, there is no internet access at all, and people have to drive several kilometers just to get basic connectivity. The South African government is the enemy of its own people.
