So yeah, he was loud, but he was also great to work with, and I learned a ton from him. His book is enlightening, and I know he's worked just as hard on it as he would have worked on anything else. Glad to call him a friend, even if I'm now hard of hearing. (end)

He'd made all of those calls to track down facts, protect himself and the station legally, and to figure out how the story would be perceived. He put in more work and thought and checking and double-checking than almost any other reporter that I've seen...

He'd been working on an undercover investigative report about how restaurants were substituting cheaper fish for higher quality fish and ripping people off. As part of it, he'd ordered grouper and gotten tilapia, and proved that it wasn't an honest mistake...

Keep in mind, I can hear everything Stuart is saying, and he is at least SIXTY FEET AWAY FROM ME. And after a while, I was like, dude, give it a rest, you got a bad lunch, move on. But one night, after I watched the 11pm news, all of it made sense...

And for about a month, I heard Stuart complaining about some fish he'd eaten for lunch. He made at least a dozen phone calls, and very loudly and profanely swore that he'd ordered a grouper sandwich and they'd given him tilapia instead. "It's f--king trashfish!" he'd say...

Stuart spent a LOT of time on the phone, asking people questions and trying to understand every aspect of a story before putting it on the air. For years, my desk was right next to Stuart's, but initially I sat on the other side of the newsroom...

Finished reading my friend ⁦@StuartCLT⁩’s memoir and it’s funny and sobering and great and now I feel really bad about telling everybody how loud he is. But he is really loud. So here’s a story I like to tell...
