Models continue to bounce around but strong signals for heavy rainfall middle to end of next week. Starting Tuesday/Tuesday night and continuing into next weekend, waves of showers and t-storms will move through Iowa and northern Illinois. Up to several inches of rain could be possible over the next week. No severe weather is expected for northern Illinois. #ilwx

Tropical Storm Dolly fell apart on Friday. Now it might try to come back. The Hurricane Center says Dolly’s remnants could find more favorable conditions once they reach the Gulf around the middle of this week. And there’s already ANOTHER system developing just south of Louisiana. The Gulf suddenly has my attention.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Invest #97L in the northern Gulf flaring up pretty impressive storms this morning. If trends continue, might get a bump to orange or a medium chance of development later today. It has a tight window to try and form before pushing into TX / LA on Tuesday. It's certainly possible to squeak out a quick Tropical Depression or even Tropical Storm #Edouard. Water temps are warmer than average for most of the Gulf + low wind shear along its track. What could hurt development is dry air. We'll see, stay tuned...

The quiet and seasonable conditions to end the week will give way to the return of heat and humidity to close out August and begin September, which may be accompanied by periodic shower and thunderstorm chances. #ILwx #INwx

This is the OFFICIAL updated tornado count for 2026 by state. IGNORE the other inflated numbers that you see from other sources, as those have "duplicate" tornado reports in them that need to be "quality controlled" or in other words sifted through and removed. These have been quality controlled and are accurate as of August 25th at 1pm. The unbelievable number of 210 for Illinois clearly stands out, but also notice the cluster of surrounding states like Iowa, Indiana, and Missouri who also have high numbers compared to "traditional" tornado alley of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas & Nebraska.

630am: Dew points are falling into the 50s across northern Illinois and may even fall into the 40s this afternoon as much drier air overspreads the area today. It actually feels like a hint of fall outside this morning! #ilwx

With a nearly saturated ground and winds becoming light overnight, conditions will be favorable for areas of fog to develop, mainly after midnight. The potential exists for some of this fog to be dense, especially near river valleys and towards daybreak. #inwx
