On #InternationalYouthDay, Global Youth Voices reminds us that Big Tobacco’s business model depends on recruiting new generations of customers—including through flavors, influencer marketing, and sports sponsorships.
On #InternationalYouthDay 🌍👥, we must be clear: young people are not the tobacco industry’s next market. 🚭 Our future is not their market. 🔮 The voices of young people are essential 🗣️✨ to building a healthier, more sustainable world 🌱🌎—one free from the harms of tobacco and nicotine products. At COP11, we had the privilege of meeting many of the Global Youth Voices 🌍🧑‍🤝‍🧑, and we remain committed to listening to their ideas, experiences and determination. 💬💪 Young people are helping us understand how our world is changing, and they will shape the future of public health. ❤️‍🩹🌎 Tobacco and nicotine companies continue to redesign products, flavours and marketing 📱🎯 to attract a new generation. We therefore call on Parties to the WHO FCTC to fully implement Article 13, including by addressing advertising, promotion and sponsorship across digital media, influencers, entertainment and sport 📲🎬🏅, in line with the newly adopted guidance on entertainment media. We also call on Parties to uphold Article 5.3 🛡️ and protect public health policymaking from tobacco industry interference. Different contexts. Common aspirations. 🌍🤝 Our future is not their market. 🚭 #InternationalYouthDay #YouthDay #FCTCSavesLives 📄 Read the 2026 open letter, “Protect Young People, Make the Tobacco Industry Pay,” from the Global Youth Voices: gyv-cms.ggtc.world/wp-conten…

Real protection means keeping the tobacco industry from influencing the public health policies meant to protect young people. That’s exactly what Article 5.3 of the global tobacco treaty is designed to do.

It also means holding the industry accountable for the harm it causes and making it pay. Read the youth-led letter and join the call: our future is not their market. #MakeBigTobaccoPay #FCTCSavesLives

Who should pay for the devastating health and economic costs caused by tobacco? That's the question at the heart of Brazil's landmark health cost recovery case, which seeks to hold the country's largest cigarette manufacturers financially accountable for the enormous burden smoking places on Brazil's public health system. The court's upcoming decision could establish the first legal precedent of its kind in a low- or middle-income country, with implications that extend well beyond Brazil.

What do cigarettes and ultra-processed products (UPPs) have in common? Some of the same tobacco companies that increased cigarette addictiveness later applied similar tactics to make UPPs hard to resist. 🔗 assets.advocacyincubator.org….

The Trump regime’s aggressive acceleration of AI to rapidly expand immigration enforcement and military force is threatening our democracy. And a small group of tech oligarchs is driving that trend, amassing unprecedented amounts of economic and political influence.
