After visiting the adventure playground yesterday, today's Guardian Long Read was about playgrounds. A fascinating piece about playground design, inspiration and the understanding that play is an essential building block for learning & social development

I do wonder if by minimising break times at schools, creating adult led-activities for all playtimes and reducing the amount of 'free' playtime children have we are taking away their chance to learn how to negotiate, manage conflict and entertain themselves.
Shameful
The UK is the world's fifth largest economy, but one fifth of its population live in poverty and 1.5 million of them experienced destitution in 2017. The UN's special rapporteur on extreme poverty has called poverty in the UK "systemic" and "tragic" bbc.in/2Wl9LOv

Amazing - I am in #Finland and this is a playground in a train carriage on an inter-city train. Whole lot of books as well. Excellent idea - far nicer for parents (and kids) than car. @CarolineRussell

The suffragettes are lauded today, but in their time they were despised and demonised by the elite, as anarchists and terrorists. Dragged from protests, thrown in dirty cells, tubes forced down their noses.
