#RecycleRight is important but let's not lose sight of the system level design problems that producer responsibility (EPR) could solve
"The current system of managing recycling is not working & anyone that thinks it's going to continue that way is not keeping up with where the trends are going... One solution is EPR: manufacturers of packaging also responsible for recycling it" cbc.ca/news/technology/recyc…

What happens when education, outreach and local partnerships come together?
In San Benito County, a 12-month pilot program helped reduce reported illegal mattress dumping by 35% while increasing awareness of free recycling and disposal resources. Through bilingual outreach, community engagement, anti-dumping signage and strong collaboration with local partners, the county saw measurable results that continue beyond the pilot period.

Inside every discarded mattress are materials that still have value.
Through mattress recycling programs, steel, foam, wood and fiber are separated and prepared for reuse in manufacturing, construction, insulation and other products.
Over the lifetime of these programs, millions of mattresses have been recycled and their components returned to the supply chain, showing how much material can be recovered when recycling becomes part of the system.

During a recent visit to a DR3 facility, we captured this behind-the-scenes look to help educate the public through our Bye Bye Mattress program on how the process works.
From steel to foam to wood, materials are carefully separated and recovered instead of ending up in a landfill.
With Earth Day approaching, it’s a great time to highlight the impact of responsible mattress recycling and the role it plays in a more circular system.
