There’s a clear choice in this race: I’ve fought to build the homes we need to lower costs. My opponent has only blocked them.

I’ve spent over 35 years fighting to uplift working class families.
Every Californian deserves the opportunity to achieve the California Dream, and affordable housing is a piece of keeping that dream alive.
Thank you, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, for the tour and for your leadership on housing. I look forward to working with you to build more homes California families can afford.

We know how to build more affordable housing. We just need to do a whole lot more of it.
Today @XavierBecerra joined me in El Cerrito to see 70 new affordable homes taking shape, thanks to state funding, housing reforms & innovative construction.
More of this, CA!

💥Boom! Gov. Newsom just signed AB 1294 (Haney) to deliver true mixed-income communities that include units for moderate-income households.
@SPUR_Urbanist is proud to have testified and advocated for passage of the legislation.

It’s been 16 years since Sacramento City and County each took a vote agreeing to form a Joint Powers Authority to address the regions growing homelessness concerns.
Despite the City and County voting to proceed - the agency was never formed.
In two later Grand Jury reports, that scathingly reviewed Sacramento’s lack of a regional approach, the judicial system called for the formation of such an agency (twice).
Then there was the ballot measure - where citizens asked the regional leaders to work together.
And then the lawsuit when the County District Attorney sued the City of Sacramento for not addressing the issues urgently.
SB802 finally called the question for the people of Sacramento. This region deserves a coordinated effort, true accountability and access to the decision makers.
SB802 is overdue. Sacramento has fallen behind. California’s numbers are improving while ours are not.
Thank you @CAgovernor for signing SB802 and noting in your signing statement how ready Sacramento is for this next step!

2 million California homes sit in high-risk fire zones, most built before modern fire-safe standards. Climate change is making it worse.

California still has a long way to go on housing construction timing -- entitlement and permitting puts a huge time tax on projects. Nice to see Sacramento and Anaheim ahead of the curve for California.
Where in America can new homes get permitted and built fastest? And are we getting faster or slower over time?
In a new paper with @leonardo_damico and Audrey Wang, we show cities like Raleigh typically *finish* construction before cities like San Francisco even approve it.
Great to see these two terrific people tie the knot! Congrats Vikrum & Amber!

In upholding trans sports bans, the Supreme Court has once again fueled the campaign to erase and dehumanize trans people. And the way the Court wrote the decision opens the door for other efforts to eliminate trans people from public life.
Banning trans young people from playing sports is cruel and discriminatory. Trans youth in sports are tiny in number — for example, fewer than ten NCAA athletes out of 500,000 — and they’re harming no one.
Just let these young people play sports. Just leave them alone.
Trump and MAGA’s crusade to kick trans youth out of sports is part of a culture war that uses trans people as political pawns to distract from these same politicians’ failure to address the real issues harming people, such as the obscene cost of housing, health care, child care, and groceries. Instead they demonize trans people — 1% of the population — as the cause of so many of society’s ills.
The deeply organized propaganda campaign to demonize and dehumanize this tiny population is unbelievably dangerous. It leads to violence against trans people and creates an atmosphere of fear and marginalization.
To defeat MAGA’s authoritarian playbook, we have to call their treatment of trans people what it is: a cynical distraction from the real problems facing our country with deadly consequences for vulnerable people.
Trans people aren’t going anywhere. And many of us will continue to stand up and have their backs, even when it’s considered unpopular to do so.

Oh & amidst all the craziness last week (👇) let's not forget, we passed my $11B housing bond! It took me 4 years, but we got it done. This will expand housing for veterans, first-time homebuyers, farmworkers, homeless & more. A good reminder that government can still deliver.

I serve in the California State Senate with @Scott_Wiener.
Yes he pushes the envelope and yes he is a progressive legislator. His areas of focus are actually housing, transportation and affordability.
He’s a Harvard trained lawyer, who earned his undergrad degree at Duke.
He’s brilliant. Kind. And a hard worker.
These are not opinions. They are facts.
I’m sure there are people who don’t like his bills or his work, but that’s different than calling him names, and yelling at him in public where he is showing up as an elected representative.
We are a better society than that. We can disagree without being cruel. We can make counterpoints without villainizing one another.
Scott’s a good person. And he will be a thoughtful and effective member of Congress.

A huge congrats to our Democratic nominee for Governor: @XavierBecerra. He and his team ran an incredible campaign.
It’s time for Democrats to come together and unite as we take on MAGA extremist Steve Hilton and the Trump agenda. California is ready.

Are we in a position where the @AP should be calling @SteveHiltonx for the second spot and give us a free weekend?
Steyer needed to gain 110k per million on Hilton, but he’s gaining 70k per million right now, and was at 50 per million in previous batches.
As a result his hill got steeper and the runway is shorter. He now has to start hitting 121k per million, basically double his rate for the last three days.

California has spoken. Thank you for standing with us. To every volunteer who made a call, sent a text, knocked a door, or showed up when it mattered most — this victory belongs to you.
We're just getting started. On to November.
