Younger daughter at Clemson entered the ticket lottery for football. *Won* tickets for exactly one game (out of 7): SMU. It’s ridiculous that full time undergraduates don’t have access to tickets for every home game.

democrats put enormous amounts of money into infrastructure investments like CHIPS and IRA but voters didn’t see any of it because Democrats are just totally unwilling to confront, or even mention, the process ghouls that strangle everything in red tape

That said, I wish we had enacted the housing, care, and child tax credit elements in Build Back Better so we would have had concrete cost-of-living benefits to run on. People should reflect on which part of the Democratic Party denied us those agenda items.

the fundamental problem Democrats have is that while the right has an entire media ecosystem built to bash Democrats the left also has an entire media ecosystem…built to bash Democrats

Ovi has two goals in seven minutes tonight. If he scores 38 more tonight, he will break Wayne Gretzky’s record. So far, it looks like he might.

“An enthusiasm that is fertile and productive can enrich life and society, just as displacing personal frustrations into venomous tirades about your boyhood hobby can devalue them. … You don’t need the machete or the megaphone.” Alan Moore is correct. theguardian.com/books/2024/o…

‘Fandom has toxified the world’: Watchmen author Alan Moore on superheroes, Comicsgate and Trump

Enthusiasm can be a productive force for good, but our culture has rapidly become a fan-based landscape that the rest of us are merely living in

You’re telling me I have to choose between an old, bloated, insufferably arrogant candidate from New York and an entitled, inauthentic, out-of-touch diva from California? This World Series is the worst.

trying to think about depictions in media of male characters who are masculine but have empathy, aren't emotionally distant, nor have the "dumb dad" trope and all i got so far is joel from parenthood

Ah the ‘is Rocky Horror problematic’ chat. Through a 2024 lens - of course it is. But babies, being gay was *illegal* in England 6 years before Rocky was first staged in ‘73. It was brave, bold & brilliant for its time. Look beyond the end of your own nose, just briefly. Please.

I’ve told this story before, but I left the press screening of “The Last Jedi” talking to a fellow critic saying, “It was well-made, but I wish it took off its kids’ gloves. Fans are mature adults who can engage with big ideas. I don’t get why it’s so gentle.” Boy was I wrong.
