Well isn’t it pretty common for law graduates and law students at university to be described as “lawyers”? Of course in England, the phrase is not protected apparently.
Because you’re Dean of a law school, I’m honestly shocked you’d say this. Unlicensed persons who work as law clerks call themselves LAW CLERKS, not lawyers. And in government offices, we call them Graduate Legal Assistants or Fellows, not lawyers.

There’s something amusing about the continual stream of negative commentary about Oxford by students. Who are these people and where are they? I never met anyone at Cambridge who complained so much.

If urban churches got the same proportion of the population attending as rural churches, they'd have to build stadiums in every town! In the service I took last Christmas there was over 50% of the village population in the pews (plus some who were prevented by health issues).

The Church of England disagrees with the Pope on the death penalty. As part of the government’s exercise of the civil sword, it’s lawful to execute people. This is agreeable to God’s Word and may be assented to with a good conscience by all members of the CofE. (Art 37; Canon A2)
The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Michelangelus is really bad. Looks amateur.

I feel the designers clearly have never seen the tower because that looks nothing like it.
✈️ | New look for the next chapter. Today we’ve unveiled our new brand. Our new identity builds on what people already know about Edinburgh Airport, including our iconic control tower, while giving us a more modern, confident and flexible brand for the future.

On the contrary, 2 years is perfectly appropriate.
I mean no disrespect by this. But I do not believe lay magistrates should be able to deprive us of liberty for *two years*. It’s not what the system was built for. And there will be so many tragic miscarriages of justice.

I am honestly astounded: we have affidavits and appearances and habeas corpus and I thought we were very modernised.
Spent a day at the Four Courts in Dublin, in awe of the many forms of the common law that the Irish have preserved. Wdym you still have affidavits? A Chancery list? Motions court where you can jump the queue with an application for habeas corpus?

A “psephologist” should really know better.
Complete nonsense; no one is forced to fill out a ballot paper, you can just take it and shove it in the box blank if you like. What is "mandatory" (and with a federally trivial fine for non compliance) is participating via booth attendance or otherwise unless you have a valid excuse.

New boat race trophies are really bad.

It’s actually good. England used to have similar names, Freshman, Questionist, Sophist, Determiner, etc.
I still don’t understand the American special names for their grades. Sophomore or freshman or whatever. Why don’t you just say what grade you’re in. Up until I was like 15 I thought those were made up for movies and tv

Junior and senior come from Junior Sophist and Senior Sophist whereas Sophomore comes from some kind of lesser Sophister.

Where did Cash on Delivery go? I remember using it once a bit over a decade ago. Seems a useful service.

Nah I hardly studied at home in Year 12/Form VI and did fine. Apart from cramming/swotting being very effective, there are plenty of hours in class to learn.
"barely studied" is a FUCKING lie because either a.) they have great fundamentals by studying similar concepts when they were younger b.) they're studying secretly cuz it's "cringe" to show effort c.) their definition of "barely studying" may be "studying" for you d.) all 3

Interesting how “activist” is a term used in Britain for run-of-the-mill political campaigners.
Understand that prominent Tory activist Jay Chan has been reprimanded and suspended from the party for a period after campaigning for Count Binface in the Clacton by-election

Is a working timetable a timetable of workings or a “working” timetable (i.e. an imperfect but usable timetable, like a working theory or working hypothesis)?

I didn’t realise Rome still made this kind of chasubles.
There is a story behind this chasuble.

I do not like relics one bit. Why can't a man who died in 1979 be buried in one piece? I struggle to see the benefit that comes from waving his jaw around. It seems many RCs on here are unsure of them other than to 'own the prots' or be 'metal' (see skull of mary magdelane)

The Paddington thing is getting quite tiresome
Enjoyed visiting St Mary Magdalene Church in Gillingham, where William Adams (三浦按針) was baptised, on his baptism day! Popular TV series Shogun is modelled after him❤️ First British navigator to come to Japan in 1600, after two years of sailing through Strait of Magellan and across the Pacific Ocean!!😲💦
