The Government of Guatemala in collaboration with the @DeptofDefense recently completed a joint cyber security review of Guatemalan government networks, a testament to our ongoing cooperation and shared commitment to strengthening Guatemala’s digital infrastructure and safeguarding its critical assets.
This collaborative effort, conducted in a spirit of partnership and mutual respect, aimed to enhance both the United States’ and Guatemala’s cyber defenses and contribute to global cybersecurity. During the review, the joint team identified the presence of advanced persistent threat APT-15, also known as Vixen Panda, Nickel, and Nylon Typhoon, within certain Guatemalan government systems. This group, associated with China, has been linked to intrusions of government organizations across the globe, with a focus on Central and South America.
The discovery of APT-15 underscores the evolving nature of cyber threats and the importance of international cooperation in addressing them. The governments of Guatemala and the United States are united in their resolve to confront these challenges head-on, ensuring the security and resilience of our digital infrastructure.
