I've spent the better part of a year making a single puzzle dungeon that could probably be walked through in about 30 mins. My brain is fried, I see polygons in my sleep. But it's nearly done
I keep saying this.
We have so much compute, games could look glorious... if we went back to hiring geeks.
Actual geeks. The types that can't talk to women and need to be reminded to shower.

Once upon a time, I tweeted about not letting your kids play modern games.
It ruffled some feathers.
I maintain that if you care about your kids having a healthy, balanced life, you're much better off exposing them to retro games first and modern games...eventually or never.
This is why my kids play/ed C64, Apple ][, NES, SNES and Wii games and not much else.
Raise your kids to be retro gamers. They'll have their whole life to explore modern games...but you only get one chance to protect their impressionable little minds from brain rot and the online predators of modern games.
If your kids want video games but you are worried about screen time
The answer is simple, give them old school games .@modretro
Old games are the opposite of addicting
They are sadistically hard and will make your kid rage quit and go play outside
Just like 90s kids did
My post got removed from the Godot subreddit because I used Codex to generate some code.
I don't like that. I think that, as a community, we should be inclusive of all kinds of people (yes, even AI bros).
Instead, I feel like you're forced to be anti-AI if you want to be part of the Godot community.
I'm not pro-AI. I'm just an artist. I'm paying a programmer every week to teach me how to code manually because I genuinely want to learn the craft.
But at the same time, I don't see the world in black and white. Codex is a tool that helps me create prototypes and proofs of concept as an artist. I don't think that's inherently a bad thing.
You can argue that GPT was built on stolen data and that it's therefore unethical to use it... but do you eat meat? I've been vegan for 10 years, the meat industry is literally destroying the planet, and it's based on killing innocent creatures... but am I forcing you to be vegan or vegetarian?
People should be free to have their own ethical beliefs and draw the line in different places.
Vibe-coded a proof of concept for a visual scripting solution in Godot.
I know it’s rough, but I think there are some interesting ideas here.
It supports accelerator keys, so you can just press V → I to declare an integer, then F → R to call the _ready function.
The idea is to make it faster to type than normal code while keeping it 1:1 with GDScript.
Been working on an office space out back of my house.
We'll be back to posting interesting stuff very soon.
TIL: Kenney was behind the intro animation for my favorite stuff back in middle school.
Someone asked me for the Armor Games intro I made back in 2008 and it made me curious if @ArmorGames still uses this... YES THEY DO!
Anyway here it is in 4K (or whatever socials compress it to)

The energy and design going into China's bookshops is something you have to see to believe. We've visited a stunning variety of these spectacular spaces across China over the years - each more magical than the last.
As such, our kids are growing up with the idea "bookshops are magical; books are magical" - which I find completely fantastic. Our boy (soon to be 7) reads constantly. He carries books with him when he leaves the house. And he's now taken to reading to his sister (4) on a nightly basis.
I guess that's what happens when you teach kids from the start that books are portals to magical worlds and unbounded abilities ❤️
I am going to start putting a boilerplate "May use AI" on everything, whether or not it does.
This is a lot like saying "you used Blender and Godot, which are open source. I'd be interested in hearing why you think your game shouldn't be free."
It's really a shame. Under the hood, AI is a genuinely cool technology that we could be using for some really neat stuff.
...but most people aren't using it for anything neat. They're building spambots.
Today in AI is great and you should love it;
Some bots are having a fabricated discussion on one of my open-source Starter Kits talking about files that simply do not exist, the game wasn't even written in Python.

This is actually more of a budget constraint than an engineering one.
We can absolutely model the interior of every building, but you have to pay your artists and designers for all of it.
Yes host your own server.
It's the ultimate super power. You can do just about anything with a server.
Replying to @icpolicy @MithrasSoldier
absolute dumbest shit ever because we are basically getting away from society at its core principles
humans got so advanced in part because we WORKED TOGETHER. you can extrapolate how dumb this is like this:
- "just be your own police"
- "just host your own server"
- "just build own house"

I ruined going out to eat for my family after I graduated from college in 2017.
Because what I made tasted better, was cheaper, usually faster, and it didn't make us sick afterwards.
The easiest win was pizza.
I've made over a thousand pizzas since I graduated in 2017.
It takes less than 5 minutes of work and you do something else for an hour while you wait for the dough to proof. You can make batches of dough and just have it chill out in your fridge for the week.
My go to recipe is 300g water, 500g of bread flour, 12.5g of salt, 10g of sugar, 3-5g of yeast, and if you feel like it 20g of oil.
That gets you 2- 14 to 16 inch pizzas or 4 personal size pizzas.
The same dough can make a pretty good loaf of bread, bread sticks, calzones, stombolis, etc.
Make your own food. It's 100x easier than you think.
Caving and weighing in on the bs $28 lunch discourse
Forget about the money for a minute, I’m flabbergasted at the number of people claiming they straight up can’t feed themselves
Between a rice cooker and an air fryer, neither of which require constant counter space, all of your cooking issues are resolved if you’re too lazy to turn on the stove or oven (no shame, I am)
90% of my meals are some variation of rice, chicken or steak, a vegetable, and hot sauce
Reducing decision fatigue (including removing deciding what you want to order for delivery and waiting an hour for it) reverberates positively throughout every area of life
Why?
Example - I’m good at building businesses and little else, so I focus my energy towards the greatest marginal returns, idc about cooking and I outsource my cleaning
Bigger issue here is that everyone is so complicit in being a loser that it’s net negative for all of society
If you can’t even feed yourself, how can anyone depend on you?
Your family & friends deserve better than that. Grow up.

BLENDER IS FINALLY GETTING VANILLA TEXTURE LAYERS FINALLY AFTER YEARS OF BEGGING FOR IT!!!! AAAAAAA!!!!
I don't think anyone over like, 45 really understands that the entire industry has burned 1.5 to 2 whole cohorts of engineers because of cheap labor arbitrage.
An American grad cannot compete with scab labor that's basically free.
Replying to @funnygamedev
it's always someone else's fault logic won't help you. you're neither owed a fancy sandwich nor a job. what value do you bring to others
Do boomers not know how to cook?
I had leftover plov for lunch. That's a rice dish with veggies and meat. I think the entire pot cost 7 dollars and I still have leftovers.
No sad sandwiches in this fleet.
