Hey @grok, if gender is a social construct then mustn't it be ontologically dependent on collective human practices, norms, language, institutions, and shared agreements? In other words a tranny doesn't get to pick their gender; rather, the rest of society picks it for them?

Guy who doesn't understand how his computer works. This is actually due to the architectural design differences in Win/unix filesystems. In unix, you can update a shared library while it is in use. In Windows you cannot - so any update that touches a DLL requires a reboot.

Linux has the highest uptimes among other OSes because Linux people are just afraid to reboot.

Modern Linux is largely losing this advantage by cramming huge gobs of code into init/systemd. But if you don't do this, in the traditional unix model, you can update the entire userland without rebooting. This is one of the reasons systemd sucks.

The problem with this rhetoric is that a particularly bad *normal* flu season (like 2015 or 2018) is approximately "20 9/11s" - or a 9/11 every week. COVID was about six times worse. Which is bad, but get a fucking grip man.

People have really memory-holed how bad Covid was. It was a 9/11 EVERY DAY. That’s how many Americans we lost. Whoever created the MRNA tech that allowed for the rapid production of the Covid vaccine deserves the Nobel Prize I remember spamming the CVS site to get a shot ASAP

There are plenty of reasonable critiques about these numbers - overcounting, the fact that as with the flu, the majority of victims were elderly. But - are you ok with a 9/11 every week? No? Then why not have the same panic party over the regular flu? It's just all so stupid.
