Congratulations to Professor @Phoebe_Okowa on your re-election to the International Court of Justice for a full nine-year term. A proud moment for Kenya and our legal profession.
For young women pursuing a career in law, may this achievement encourage you to aim high and claim your place, including on the world’s highest judicial platforms. We should celebrate this moment by renewing our commitment to opening doors for those who follow.
May your tenure advance independent, principled justice and the peaceful resolution of disputes. International law must protect all nations, not merely serve the powerful. Wishing you every success, Judge Okowa.

Tonight, the American people sent a clear message — they want a politics that brings people together rather than divides them, and leaders who offer concrete solutions to the challenges they face.
These results were only possible because outstanding candidates stepped forward in every region of the country — including in areas once considered long shots. They came from different backgrounds and represented a range of political perspectives, but were united by shared values, a belief in public service, and a commitment to putting the people of their districts and states first.
We also owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of election officials and volunteers from both parties who helped ensure a smooth election and carried out one of the most essential functions of our democracy.
While this administration has another two years in office, our job now is to roll up our sleeves, make changes wherever we have the power to do so, prevent further damage, and lay the groundwork for the future.

In Sudan, a war for raw power, fueled by outside actors, has become a war on civilians.
The fighting must stop.
Civilians must be protected.
Humanitarian aid must flow, without obstruction.
The country’s unity, sovereignty & territorial integrity must be preserved.
And Sudan's future must be shaped by the Sudanese people through an inclusive political process.

I just arrived in Egypt.
Amid intensifying conflicts, I carry a message with me:
We need to stop the widening of war, protect civilians & create the political space for diplomacy & peace.
We must tackle the inequalities that divide societies – & stop the conflicts that are multiplying human suffering & pushing an already unequal world further apart.

The Houthis have attacked commercial vessels and arbitrarily detained UN personnel. The Security Council demanded an end to these attacks, and Guterres himself condemned the detentions. How can we trust an agreement with a militia responsible for these actions?

Africa still has no permanent seat on the Security Council.
A 21st century Security Council without permanent African representation is unjust & indefensible.
We must reform the Council so that it reflects today’s world with the legitimacy and effectiveness that today’s challenges demand.

AI is racing ahead of our ability to understand its full consequences.
But the danger is not technology.
It’s technology without accountability.
Capability without oversight.
Decision-making without transparency.
AI must be shaped by humanity, with humanity & for all humanity.

This is very sad. Jirongo was a good and patriotic leader who served his country with dedication. We shall miss him. My condolences go to his family, relatives, friends and the people of Kenya. May his soul rest in peace.

🚨PRESS STATEMENT: The Kenya Editors Guild is shocked, outraged, and deeply perturbed by the reported abduction of The Standard Group Associate Editor, Alex Kiprotich, in what appears to be a disturbing escalation in the intimidation and targeting of journalists in Kenya.
We will not be silent. We call upon President William Ruto and all agencies of the State to ensure that those responsible for Alex’s abduction are held to account and that Kenya’s constitutional commitment to media freedom is upheld not merely in words, but in action.
