Media coverage plays a critical role in amplifying environmental issues through investigative reporting, educational broadcasts, and vibrant social media campaigns. By giving a platform to scientists, policy makers, and grassroots activists, the media raises public awareness about biodiversity conservation but also holds institutions accountable for sustainable development. Happy #MazingiraDay2026!

In efforts to eradicate sexual harassment in Kenya’s media sector, @AMWIK with support from @UnescoEast International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) spearheaded a series of virtual training workshops over the past week under the "Empowering Journalists for Safety and Equity in Kenya" project. Addressing a reality where 60% of journalists report facing sexual harassment in the workplace, we partnered with local radio stations, to transition their newsrooms from informal office practices to adopting formal Sexual Harassment Policies. By equipping leadership and media professionals to combat gender-based violence, sexual harassment, and digital abuse, this initiative establishes concrete institutional protections that safeguard journalists both inside the studio and out in the field. #SafeSpacesKE
