Our method of regulation relies on fear as the motivator. We need a method of regulation that fosters pride. We have to change the locus of control. #rethinkingregulation

Feynman learning strategy in THREE points:
1. Continually ask "Why?"
2. When you learn something, learn it to where you can explain it to a child.
3. Instead of arbitrarily memorizing things, look for the explanation that makes it obvious.

"The reality is you cannot have both tightly held managerial authority and the agility enabled by widespread employee empowerment. Attempts to blend elements of both will inevitably lead to confused systems with conflicting priorities."

"Large-scale problems do not require large scale solutions; they require small-scale solutions within a large scale framework" (David Fleming). This relationship between small & large-scale change is a fundamental issue for leaders of change. The @Centre4SysInnov describes a maturing approach to address this:
1. Confetti: multiple, single, focussed projects which slice up the complex reality of people’s lives & are unlikely to create large-scale impact across a system.
2. Spaghetti: a coherence between projects all working towards the same goal that generates potential for multiplication & amplifications of impact.
3: Meatballs & sauce: clusters of ingredients that together create something that is bigger (more tasty!) than these individual parts. The "sauce" keeps projects together so they can amplify, multiply & reinforce each other in practice.

Signs of a leadership culture problem:
- status & grade are everything
- high staff turnover, especially staff who ask questions 🙋♀️
- bright people go quiet 🤐
- good ideas are claimed by seniors
- rule followers are the ones who stay
- leaders can’t see there’s a problem 🤷♂️

In praise of "connectors" in organisations & systems. Connectors are people with links to many others in different groups. They are often unnoticed & underappreciated, yet they play a vital role in change across systems: crossing silos, disseminating information & mobilising people into action. As we increasingly move into complex change across integrated systems we need more connectors: paulitaylor.com/2023/12/08/w… By @PaulIanTaylor #IHIForum
