The thing about astrology is that it’s like the idea of a monotheist god in that you can not believe in it and even view it as ideologically suspect, but it’s too old and too widespread to “belong” to a single political tendency. Astrology was invented by the Mesopotamians!

maybe the funniest part of the bayeux tapestry is when they briefly pause the narrative to show you a guy called wadard who then never shows up again

I am a moral subject (I can do right or wrong) but not a moral object (things done to me are not right or wrong)

The most valuable contribution I have ever given to any conversation is my silence. My presence is in all cases worse than my absence.

To the extent a human being actually does have the “power to do otherwise” I don’t have any reason to believe I have done the right rather than the wrong thing.

The world is not a better place for my having been born, and there’s no real hope of changing that.

one of the most devastating parts of seeing the bayeux tapestry irl was clocking that for 90% of it, the borders are these decorative animals, then the battle comes & they gawk in horror as the fighting spills over and the margin becomes this jumble of dismembered looted corpses

all other allegations aside, "we caught wind that a mathematician might be about to solve a famous problem so we spent $15 million on tokens to scoop them" is exactly why OpenAI is completely full of shit when it says it wants to work with the academic community in a positive way

it's frustrating everyone going, "but the uncommitted movement..." about this when the problem he has is he wasn't a part of the uncommitted movement and endorsed harris in the primary, but only saying that makes it seem like it would be bad if he was in the uncommitted movement.
Replying to @samueljrob
El-Sayed says criticism he supported Uncommitted is “sad and desperate.” He tells me he endorsed Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign because he was serving Wayne County and understood the threat of Donald Trump. “It was the most frustrating 107 days of my political existence.”

I have never contributed anything to a conversation more valuable than my silence, or brought anything to a group more valuable than my absence.

You couldn’t make The Office today. NBCUniversal owns those rights and they’d take your ass right to court.

I think banning social media for under 16s, whilst on paper may seem like a good thing, will ultimately be harmful to those kids who can't be themselves in person but flourish online. It's gonna push those kids into isolation more and take away their only lifeline.
