Yesterday afternoon historian Jason Burke visited the Somme Museum along with a group from the Men’s Shed.
Today another group of 64 students from Ballyclare High School visited the Somme Museum and were taken on their guided tours by Austin and Trevor. They also took part in an educational ‘hands on’ session with their guides.

It was a busy day at the Somme Museum today with 180 students from Wallace High School, Lisburn visiting as part of our educational programme.
They were taken around the Museum by Austin, Trevor & John & then each group had an interactive session.

The start of a new school term means the beginning of the Somme Museum’s educational programme. Yesterday we welcomed 66 students from Ballyclare High School. Tim & Neal took the pupils on a guided tour of the museum’s exhibitions followed by an ‘interactive session’.

Remembering those who lost their lives in the Battle of the Somme.
Earlier this week, The Princess Royal and The Duke of Gloucester joined commemorations to mark the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme in France.
Their Royal Highnesses paid tribute to servicemen at events across the Somme, including at The Thiepval Memorial, the largest CWGC memorial by number of casualties commemorated.
The Princess Royal is President of the @CWGC and The Duke of Gloucester is President of the @SommeAssoc.
The afternoon tour of the Ulster Tower and Thiepval Wood with Tommy included Viking Excursions and a group from South Africa.
Please be advised not all areas of the Ulster Tower site will be accessible over the next few weeks. The wall into the Memorial & the wall at the entrance to the site are being repaired. We aim to try and keep the disruption to a minimum but this will not always be possible.
Today Neal represented the Somme Museum at an event onboard HMS Caroline to mark the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of Jutland.

It was great to welcome 50 students from Donegal and Derry to the Somme Museum on Thursday.
The schools were brought together by the Inishowen Partnership and lead by our good friend Tracey McRory.

It was an extremely warm afternoon tour of the Ulster Tower and Thiepval Wood for All Hallows Catholic School and a group from Northern Ireland.
On Thursday the pupils from Kirkiston Primary School visited the Somme Museum and went on a tour of the trenches followed by an interactive session.
