🚨 Over 35,000 Ethiopians flee into Kenya as fighting between Oromia and Somali Regional Forces leaves widespread destruction and food shortages in Moyale Fighting between Oromia and Somali Regional Forces in Moyale Town, along the Oromia–Somali regional border, has reportedly subsided following several days of intense gunfire, arson and looting. Residents told Deutsche Welle (DW) that relative calm had returned without military intervention, although widespread property destruction, restricted movement and severe food shortages continue to affect civilians. Thousands of displaced residents sheltering outside Moyale are reportedly struggling to obtain food, while those who crossed into neighboring Kenya have gained limited access to assistance. According to Kenyan media reports citing Kenyan authorities, approximately 35,000 Ethiopians have fled into Kenya, including 15,000 sheltering in refugee facilities and another 20,000 living among local host communities. Residents reported extensive destruction of homes and businesses during the fighting, while humanitarian conditions remain particularly difficult for families displaced outside the town. The Ethiopian government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the fighting, and Deutsche Welle’s repeated attempts to obtain comments from local authorities were unsuccessful.
🚨 Ethiopian Oromos seek refuge at Mandera Police Station in Kenya following stabbing death of Oromo civilian amid tensions over Moyale clashes Ethiopian Oromo civilians living and working in Mandera Town, northeastern Kenya, have reportedly sought refuge at Mandera Police Station following the stabbing death of a fellow Oromo Ethiopian national in the Bulla Hidaya neighborhood. Members of the community have appealed to Kenyan authorities for urgent protection amid growing fears of retaliatory violence. The killing comes amid heightened tensions following deadly clashes between Oromia Regional Security Forces and Somali Regional Special Forces in Moyale Town, along the Ethiopia–Kenya border. Ethiopian Oromos in Mandera expressed concerns that they could be targeted because of their ethnic identity, emphasizing that they are innocent civilians with no involvement in the ongoing fighting in Ethiopia. They urged Kenyan security agencies to intervene and ensure they are not held responsible for violence occurring across the border.

Some of the most severe violence occurred at Debre Anbessa Gind Ansa St. Michael, where large numbers of civilians had taken refuge after fleeing attacks on surrounding communities. ENDF soldiers and Gada Commando forces surrounded the monastery compound and opened fire on civilians attempting to escape, using Bren machine guns, sniper rifles and Kalashnikov rifles. Armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth) members operating under the cover of the security forces entered the monastery compound and attacked civilians with bladed weapons. Among those killed were pregnant women and infants as young as two months old. Additional killings occurred throughout Mender 3, where more than 52 civilians were reported killed in areas affected by the violence. Some victims in Mender 22 were killed with sickles and machetes. In particularly disturbing cases, the weapons used in the killings were found still lodged in victims’ bodies when their remains were recovered for burial.
🚨 Over 250 Amhara civilians massacred at Gind Ansa St. Michael Monastery as ENDF, Oromia Region Gada Commando, Jaal Mose-led OLA and Qeerroo forces carry out killings across Gida Ayana More than 250 Amhara civilians who had sought refuge at Gind Ansa St. Michael Monastery in Mender 3, Gida Ayana Woreda, East Wollega Zone, Oromia Region, were massacred amid an ongoing wave of attacks against Amhara communities in the area. Priests, monks, elderly people, mothers, pregnant women and children were among those killed. The monastery massacre forms part of a wider wave of violence affecting Andode Dicho Kebele, Shashober, Fendika, Anger Gutin, Mender 3, Mender 4 and Mender 22 since August 18, 2026. Sources on the ground and survivor accounts identify Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) soldiers, Oromia Region Gada Commando forces, the Abiy regime-backed Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) led by Jaal Mose, and armed Qeerroo (Oromo youth) groups among the forces involved in the violence. Videos emerging from the affected area reportedly show Jaal Mose-led OLA fighters operating alongside Gada Commando forces during a raid on an Ethiopian Orthodox church. Among those killed were pregnant women and infants as young as two months old. Additional killings occurred throughout Mender 3, where more than 52 civilians were reported killed in areas affected by the violence. A separate massacre occurred in Mender 22, several kilometers from Mender 3, where more than 44 Amhara civilians were killed. Among the victims were 85-year-old Aba Ayele Arega, a respected community elder known for mediating disputes and consoling grieving families, and his wife, Emahoy Eskedar Gelaw. New mothers and infants were also among those killed. Some victims in Mender 22 were killed with sickles and machetes. In particularly disturbing cases, the weapons used in the killings were found still lodged in victims’ bodies when their remains were recovered for burial. The continuing presence of ENDF soldiers and other armed forces has prevented residents from safely recovering and burying many of those killed. Bodies remain scattered throughout affected areas, with some reportedly being consumed by vultures and wild animals and others swept away by floodwaters. The final death toll could rise further. Several civilians attempting to flee Mender 3 and Mender 22 were shot by ENDF soldiers and escaped while bleeding, leaving their whereabouts and condition unknown. Across Andode Dicho, Shashober, Fendika, Anger Gutin, Mender 3, Mender 4 and Mender 22, the attacks have caused extensive civilian casualties, mass displacement and widespread destruction. Entire communities have been devastated, while homes and civilian property have been destroyed and livestock looted and taken away. Thousands of residents have fled their communities amid continuing insecurity and fear of further attacks, leaving surviving residents unable to safely retrieve victims, bury the dead or return to their homes.

For this horrific act alone, Abiy Ahmed must resign and brought to justice. Otherwise, Ethiopians will continue to suffer. So sad.

The continued targeted attacks against Christians in Ethiopia are completely unacceptable. All parties to the conflict need to take steps to ensure that Christians and all people of faith are protected from this violence and that the perpetrators are punished.

.@HouseForeignGOP glad that you showed your concern, please check @GPEthiopia, @AAA_Amhara @AmericaEthiopia and other independent OSINT sources that are solely established to be a voice for the voiceless people in Ethiopia, these are civic organizations that are run on a volunteer basis supported by the concerned Ethiopian diasporas. Cross checking your information with such sources that have a firm connection with the victims on the ground ensures that media that had known biases in the past will not control how such human rights incidents are reported going forward. Time and again Addis Standard has injected biased information regarding either victims or perpetrators of such attacks against ethnic Amharas and Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia in the past. I am grateful that they are reporting on the incident, but it is important that the narrative around these incidents is not maneuvered or controlled in a such a way that will deter victims from getting justice and for perpetrators to get unwarranted cover due to reporting that lacks clarity regarding perpetrators while the information already exists from what survivors and other data indicate. @JemalCountess @jeffpropulsion @_hudsonc @JMeservey @NEDemocracy @IngrahamAngle @RealCandaceO @OrthodoxyNews @ChristianEmerg1 @amanpour @ocptweets @HouseForeign

ETHIOPIA ― Nearly 50% of Oromos are believed to be Muslims, yet Orthodox Christians continue to face targeted massacres, particularly in Arsi Zone, allegedly at the hands of Muslim extremists. Jawar Mohammed, once a prominent opposition figure and now an ally of Abiy Ahmed, once made a chilling statement about his predominantly Muslim Oromo region, claiming that 99% of its population are Muslim and there, no one dares to speak out because we will chop their heads off with a machete. That statement, if accurately quoted and understood in its original context, may offer insight into the conditions that have allowed recurring violence against Orthodox Christians to persist in parts of Oromia.

At least 60 dead in Islamist massacre of Christians in Ethiopia | Not The Bee I regret to report that the Mohammedans are imitating their "prophet" again. Here's more from the Daily Mail on the recent persecution of the Ethiopian church: More than 40 people were killed in attacks on Orthodox Christian churches and villages in Ethiopia on Saturday. The attacks took place in Oromia, Ethiopia's largest state, which has faced a long-running insurgency and ethnic tensions, with armed groups using religion to inflame divisions. 'My sister and uncle were killed, and several of my relatives were taken hostage in Chole ward of Shirka district,' one resident said. They said 44 people were killed in the region, while another resident put the toll at 51. Church officials, according to newer reporting from the BBC, place the number killed at over 60. Video from the Christian Emergency Alliance shows a number of bodies stacked side-by-side under blankets as locals mourn in shock. [Warning: Distressing] More from the Christian Emergency Alliance: Surviving witnesses claimed regional authorities collaborated with Islamist militias to carry out the massacre. Church leaders have repeatedly warned local authorities about armed groups entering the area, but received no serious response. This is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a pattern of targeted attacks against Ethiopian Christians, who militants conflate with Amhara ethnicity. This fusion of religious and ethnic violence against innocent Christians and their churches must not be tolerated. We condemn these evil acts and call for the protection of Ethiopia's Christians. notthebee.com/article/at-lea…
