Wrote an analysis of Web3 payments protocols! We can broadly categorize these protocols / entities as payment streams, payment splits, and smart payments providers: - Streams: crypto-native way to handle recurring payments. Per-block streams enable micro payments. - Splits: programmable payouts for multi-party transactions. Their designs are gas efficient and offer versatility with tiered payout models. - Smart payments: manage currency conversions, cross-chain payments, and enable value-add enhancements to direct payment processes. Of these, I find streaming protocols to be the most interesting, particularly with regards to dynamic issuance rates. @Sablier is pioneering this new model in its V2 by allowing payment rates to adjust over time. This opens the door to so many new incentive designs and is reminiscent of when liquidity pools evolved from simple x*y=k architectures to StableSwap invariants and concentrated liquidity models. Dynamic issuance could effectively function as a loyalty system that decreased a user’s payments the longer they stayed subscribed. If the user stayed subscribed for long enough, they could even qualify to receive a revenue share stream from the service provider. Another idea: decentralized social applications could use @LensProtocol V2’s new Open Actions in tandem with dynamic streams to have on-chain social events act as triggers for changes in a stream’s issuance rate. The possibilities are endless.
