To me, "features" are an anti-pattern. I do not deliver features. I solve customers' problems. There's no guarantee that a "feature" will do that, and most of the time, the "feature" contains lots of things that people couldn't care less about. Building them is waste.

From objects to functions.

This @sarah_edo tweet has finally made me to draw my thoughts about tracks in the Engineering organization. Not sure about same names, but I hope the idea is clear. Let me highlight some points:
YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN IC TRACK THAT GIVES FULL CAREER ADVANCEMENT BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOU GET PEOPLE ON THE ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT LADDER WHO DON’T CARE ABOUT THAT WORK BUT FELT STUCK OTHERWISE, WHICH IS BAD FOR EVERYONE

Plenty of developers burn out. I know development is a lot of fun. You can sit in front of your computer for 10, 12, or even 16 hours in a row. But that's exactly how you burn out. Limit screen time, and do other things (ideally outside) too, it's a marathon, not a sprint.

– We don't write tests. – Why? – Because we don’t have time for it. – Why? – Because there is too much work and pressure. – Why? – Because we don’t move fast enough. – Why? – Because changing software has become difficult and risky. – Why? – Because we don’t write tests.

It's interesting how long it's taken to put a firm intellectual foundation under TDD, both from Bill and GeePaw. Not surprising, but stuff like this takes decades. You aren't going to fully grasp it in 30 days or 90 days and that's okay.
