A thread of classic conference advice for those of you new to ASA. (Please RT + add more!)
First, from Ryan Calder on why you should go to ASA:

tl;dr: Go to the business meetings and receptions alongside sessions! Take breaks! Connect with peers + try for meaningful conversations about the work rather than "networking." And always remember water and snacks.
Adding one more post here, fresh off the (digital) presses from @PamOliver1180! (I too was thinking of that thread and hoping this would help. Faculty: remember to check in with your mentees about ASA!)

I saw some sad questions about the #sociology @ASAnews last year too late to help (like are off-site section receptions open to all?) so I wrote up advice. Please share to sociology convention newbies and add your own advice in the comments scatter.wordpress.com/2024/0…
Happy to report that our summer newsletter is out now! Please check it out to see a feature letter from @ashleytrubin & Alena Shalaby on big theory, lots of new books and articles, and a full run-down of our section's ASA schedule!
