We like to think that we're aware of the negative consequences of a car dominated world, and that is, in part, behind our campaigning for better active travel facilities in our neighbourhoods.
This is a good explainer of the things so many are blind to.

A child's life is cheap on UK roads.
No interrogation of the evidence.
No permanent withdrawal of the driver's licence.
No media interest in the wider issues.
No justice.

Interesting 20mph stuff!
LTT roughly estimate the casualties avoided in🏴by 20mph saved £20M for the first 3 months.
If the casualty figures in Q1 2024 are similar, the 20mph associated savings will exceed the £34m implementation cost within just the 1st 6 months!

Today on Father’s Day, a Dad in Coventry is mourning the loss of his 12-year old son, Keaton Slater, killed by a hit and run driver.
But road violence is something society doesn’t seem to want to tackle, despite road crashes taking more lives than murder and terrorism combined.
I’ve seen two Plan For Drivers published so far ahead of the election, but no plans to stop 30,000 people being killed or seriously injured each year in road crashes in the UK.
Why not?

ALT With the heaviest of heartache l've never ever felt in my life my youngest son was killed in a hit run at 4:30 yesterday on the radford rd Age 12 He was my mini me he was the light and soul of our little family We can't believe that this has happened still expecting him to come barging in the room like the life of the fun he was I'm so broken right now Rip my youngest boy Can we all light up Facebook blue for this young Coventry City fan

I am the active travel champion for Oxfordshire, I do not endorse this message, this smacks of victim blaming. Shocking language "Road users can't look out for you.." If that's the case surely they shouldn't be driving. Awful by @tvprp. @matthew_barber @CCJasonHogg

A real plan for drivers would be to give people genuine transport choices like walking, cycling + public transport.
Only then can we reduce car dependency, freeing up road space for those who really need to drive.
It could be like driving during school holidays. All year round.
