I want to give you an idea of how (some) major news publications decide what to cover in the national news. I was contacted about an article in one biggest news orgs in the biz about my 200 ultras in 200 days. Here’s what I was told: doing the ultras wasn’t enough, we need some kind of angle and I was encouraged to talk about mental illness and/or addiction as though it was assumed that was part of my motivation/drive. I immediately felt uncomfortable. I explained that wasn’t relevant ro my running nor have I ever been diagnosed with mental illness. After that conversation I let the reporter know I was declining further interviews. if being covering being a mom, biz owner and 200 ultras in 200 days wasn’t enough I wasn’t interested. Now consider that when reading the news from now on!
