The year is 2050. The Great Lakes Megalopolis is the most valuable region on Earth.
Minneapolis – Milwaukee – Chicago – Indianapolis – Cincinnati – Detroit – Columbus – Cleveland – Pittsburgh – Toronto – Buffalo – Montreal
• 20% of the world's surface fresh water
• Urban centers with finance & tech hubs, and great universities
• Ontario runs one of the largest nuclear fleets in the world, generating up to 60% of its electricity, with grid-scale SMRs being built ahead of schedule. Illinois leads the US in nuclear power, and Michigan is bringing reactors back online.
• The region holds some of the largest untapped copper-nickel-cobalt-platinum-chromite deposits in the world, along with the gallium, indium, and graphite that China guards so jealously.
• The densest industrial base in the Western Hemisphere: heavy machinery, metal refineries, steel, auto, batteries, and aerospace backed by a deep pool of suppliers/engineers/skilled trades.
• Climate-resilient cities with municipal capacity that can absorb millions more.

Good questions here!
From a girardian perspective, I’d say that the mirror-image double scapegoating in our political life goes much deeper than the contemporary discourse, social media, etc. but this latter definitely exacerbates it. it seems to me that it all results in a deadlock for the many and a productive profit for the few
Reminds me of Fr. Robert Ladamus's (aka "Father A") retirement at age 59.
LSN broke the news that the Denver archbishop has asked exorcist Fr. Chad Ripperger to take a one-year break from public speaking. While LSN is taking a critical view of the bishop's actions, I suspect there is more to the story.
Bishop Golka is a trained exorcist who studied at the highly regarded Pope Leo XIII Institute. As an exorcist himself, he must've seen or heard something in Fr. Ripperger's public (or private) remarks that were sufficiently concerning to cause him to take such action.
I also understand that the USCCB may be publishing new guidelines restricting public appearances by all American exorcists, over concerns that the ministry has become too public.
I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand, exorcism used to be a deeply private ministry, and for good reason. On the other hand, when you remove solid exorcists from the public sphere, all the quacks with crazy, harmful ideas rush in to fill the void, offering terrible advice and wrong catechesis on spiritual warfare. This is especially true in these times, when demonic activity is on the rise and so many souls are seeking guidance.
On a related note, I noticed last week that Fr. Ripperger's status in the Denver archdiocese had changed to "retired" earlier this year, and his community of Doloran Fathers is no longer listed on the website.

a submissive little what?
Replying to @TheolgyMatrs
ASKING women to be submissive communicates that you are unable to MAKE them
Women are not submitting to you because you do not deserve to be submitted to yet
In my experience, even the most man hating feminist will become a submissive little girl to the right man

One regret I have is not seeing Tahquemenon Falls more often when living in the U.P. My first job out of college had me in the area a fair amount. It’s my fault I didn’t cash in enough.
I went only twice. Once in the Fall…but short of peak color like this pic I found today shows. The other was in early Spring when some snow was still there.
Still…it’s one of Michigan’s most beautiful spots.
I see they’ve now built a wonderful ramp system. My son’s chair will get there easily now. My wife & I hope to get there next summer.
Never heard of this guy but I hope his sabbatical year is fruitful and brings him closer to the love of Christ Jesus 🙏
BREAKING: Fr. Chad Ripperger silenced by his bishop for a year.
Denver Archbishop James Golka has ordered Fr. Ripperger to cease all public ministry — no talks, no preaching, no writing.

The Archdiocese of Denver states Archbishop Golka asked Fr. Ripperger to consider a one-year fast from public speaking and interviews to focus on his society; Fr. Ripperger readily agreed.

Is a random human peer better than a highly supportive chatbot in reducing loneliness over time?
Although the chatbot “Sam” was designed to offer consistent support rooted in principles from relationship science, interacting with this chatbot did not yield the same psychological benefits as interacting with a randomly university student.
This study provides initial evidence that texting daily with a random human peer may be more effective in alleviating loneliness than texting with a highly supportive chatbot. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

A new large replication study (n = 1,709 women in 9 samples at 8 labs) replication fails to find a stereotype threat effect in female college students taking a mathematics test (p = .578). Not only were the aggregate effects null, all 9 samples showed null effects.
"The current results fail to replicate the stereotype-threat effect by Johns et al., hence casting doubt on the generalizability of the effect of stereotype threat on women’s mathematics performance."

Reminder not having a long commute is one of the biggest life upgrades. You never normalize against this, like you would a very good or very bad event (the commuting paradox, described in the Scandinavian Journal of Economics). Moving closer to work or going remote is worth it

The correct response to accusations that Blondel was a Modernist:
Replying to @SimonSimplicio
Yeah some of those blurbs not reassuring me we’re getting a considered look at the relative fairness of the Modernist police to clerics and laymen, or how Rousselot’s Eyes of Faith and de Lubac’s Surnaturel are the correct working out of Blondel’s positions.
