A 52 year old Isabel Oakeshott must be absolutely loving all the replies and comments to this. Just pure unbridled joy at the way nobody has clocked that they only have a 10 year age gap

Imagine being in an exchange of views with James O'Brien and him not being the worst person in it, though.

Yes. East Asian women. Famous for their anti-social behaviour on public transport. Modern progressivism is as absurd as it is dishonest. Seemingly it is unable to tell the truth, about anything.

In 1996 the BBC put two large women on a motorbike and sidecar, sent them round Britain cooking with lard, cream and butter by the block, and twelve million people a week sat down to watch them refuse to apologise for it.
Jennifer Paterson was sixty-eight, a Catholic who had cooked for the staff of The Spectator and been sacked for throwing the crockery out of the window. Clarissa Dickson Wright was a barrister who had drunk her way through a fortune and come out the other side. Neither had been on television. Both had been told all their lives that the way they ate was going to kill them, and both had decided they would rather be fat and fed than thin and lied to.
If you watched it you remember the sound of it. Jennifer scraping an entire pack of butter into a pan while talking about the war. Clarissa holding up a lump of suet to the camera and saying the word with relish. Game pie, kidneys in cream, bacon fat poured over cabbage, a pudding made with a pound of dripping. They cooked for monks, for lifeboatmen, for the Women's Institute, in country-house kitchens with the Aga going.
And every episode had a moment where one of them turned to the lens and said what nobody else on television would. Low fat was a fraud. Margarine was a chemical. Vegetarianism was for people with something wrong with them. Clarissa said if God had not meant us to eat animals he would not have made them out of meat.
It went out in forty countries. The BBC had expected a curiosity and got the most watched cooking programme it had ever made.
Jennifer died in 1999, of lung cancer, with a tin of caviar on the bedside table that she had asked for. Clarissa went in 2014 at sixty-six, having spent her last years defending the butcher, the gamekeeper and the dairy farmer against a country that had forgotten what they were for.
They were never right about everything. They were right about the one thing the nation was being lied to about, and they said it with a sidecar and a block of butter in front of twelve million people at a time when every other cook on television was holding up a tub of spread.

“She says she is a Marxist and it appears Marxism informs everything she thinks, but what in fact gets published are light social chronicles aimed at Waitrose shoppers, about wet bourgeois bonings and library email chains.”
Chick lit author Sally Rooney gets the takedown she so richly deserves. Gift link in my reply. 1/2

Muistuta taas: jos joutuisimme sotaan, olisi Suomen kiireellisin tehtävä tuhota Muurmannin rata, että amerikkalaiset eivät pysty sitä kautta lähettämään apua Venäjälle.
Name three movies that prove you are better than everyone else! Don’t overthink it but make sure it includes one generally agreed classic, to show that you understand the canon, and one cooky choice to show you are an individual with daring taste. Go!

As I’ve pointed out before, it doesn’t matter whether it’s SpaceX/Starshield, Musk, or the White House. For the end user, the result is the same: the product will be politically weaponized against you. Whether the White House orders it or Musk proposes it makes no difference.

1/ The Musk-Trump decision to degrade Ukraine's Starlink access as a pressure tactic is a disaster not just for the United States' reputation but for the entire US defence industry. Musk's action may end up burning the whole industry. ⬇️

There's something exquisitely ridiculous about listening to the British lecture Israel and Jews on religious equality and democratic citizenship.
Israel, the Jewish nation-state, has no established state religion, no religious qualification for its president or prime minister, and no hereditary religious monarch. Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze citizens can vote, serve in the Knesset, hold government office and participate in the country's political life.
Israel's Declaration of Independence explicitly promises equal social and political rights to citizens regardless of religion, race or sex.
Now, let's visit Britain, that magnificent self-appointed guardian of enlightened democratic values, shall we?
🤡Britain actually has an established church.
Not metaphorically. Not culturally. Not because someone hung a crucifix in a government office. An actual church, established by law, with the monarch serving as its Supreme Governor.
🤡Twenty-six Anglican bishops are entitled to seats in the House of Lords simply because they're Anglican bishops. They can debate legislation, propose amendments and vote on laws governing Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Catholics, atheists and everyone else.
Do rabbis get 26 reserved seats? No.
Imams? No.
Catholic bishops? Absolutely not.
🤡England still has a legal requirement for daily collective worship in state-funded schools. In ordinary nonreligious state schools, worship is required to be Christian.
🤡The British monarch must be Protestant and in communion with the Church of England.
So the next time someone declares that Israel's Jewish national identity is inherently incompatible with democracy, perhaps they could explain why Britain's formally established Anglican church, constitutionally Protestant monarchy and parliamentary bishops supposedly present no comparable problem.
Better still, they could explain why Jewish national self-determination is treated as inherently suspect while Britain's centuries-old religious establishment is waved away as charming tradition.
One might almost begin to suspect that the objection isn't really to the principle at all. 🤔
