ECINET is the Election Commission of India’s digital platform for citizen engagement with the electoral system, covering everything from voter registration and voter ID complaints to access to election officials. It was developed in line with the ICT Vision (2015–25). ❓But who controls the technology and data infrastructure underpinning India’s electoral system? NxtGen, a Bengaluru-based company, is responsible for ECINET’s data architecture, software, data centres and AI infrastructure. The company is connected to Vinod Khosla, the Indian-American venture capitalist whose name appears in the Epstein files at many places. This raises serious questions that the Modi government and the Election Commission cannot afford to evade: 1. Has the backend of of our electoral system been exposed to foreign powers? 2. Who has access to this infrastructure, and what guarantees exist against unauthorised access, interference or manipulation? 3. ⁠What safeguards ensure that India’s electoral data and backend infrastructure are beyond the reach of foreign powers or private interests? 4. ⁠Is this the same ‘Digital India’ agenda that Hardeep Puri discussed with Jeffrey Epstein? India’s electoral infrastructure is a matter of national security, not a playground for opaque private interests and foreign-linked networks. The Modi regime must come clean about these unanswered questions about the involvement of private interests and foreign-linked networks in our electoral system.
