As always, there's a lot of misinformation around privacy circulating around.
Let me break down why "pass-through privacy" fails, and how even cryptos without a transparent pool end up having one in practice (with all its privacy pitfalls).
Enjoy the FUD-buster.

Never seen so many people so eager to shit on a top 10 coin like $ZEC
The underlying cry is all the same: "Zcash isn't [utility], MY coin is!!!"
No one bothers to say this about cardano or ripple because no one feels threatened by them
This is truly the most hated rally I've seen in crypto

zcash devs are one of the most proactive devs in the industry.
one thing about leaving coins for 18 years without touching them though, i wouldn't leave it shielded.
as we saw, pools can get obsolete or even be deprecated
and even if ironwood is still around, your son risks spending a few months to sync the state.
god, we are sooooooo early...

Lmao, well if Tech is gonna outpace the Zcash team, then guess what
Bitcoin is turbo fucked even worse
It’s important for your future that you understand Zcash. You can’t have zero knowledge about zero knowledge.
Thus, this year's Network State Conference will include a Zcash Zummit, featuring Zcash leaders Zooko Wilcox (Shielded Labs), Sean Bowe (Tachyon), Eli Ben-Sasson (StarkWare), Josh Swihart (Zodl), Josh Lee (Vizor), Dev Ojha (Zakura), Evan Forbes (Valar Group), Maxime Desalle (Winklevoss Capital), and Tom Howard (Zcash Labs).
In-person attendees will even receive some free ZEC. So: come to Singapore on October 9.

JUST IN: The ZEC pool is now live on @THORChain.
USDCx on Aleo is now live in the Ledger Wallet™ app 🎉
@Ledger and Aleo come together to bring private stablecoins to a mainstream hardware wallet for the first time.
USDCx on Aleo is a dollar-denominated stablecoin built on Aleo.
For years, holding meaningful value onchain has meant a tradeoff between security and privacy.
Blockchain analytics, exchange records, and behavioral patterns make it increasingly straightforward to connect an address to the person behind it 🔎
Once that link is made, every balance and transaction attached to it is permanent.
Moving to a centralized exchange solved public visibility by trading away ownership.
Self-custody removes that custodial risk, but if your address is public, your balance and transaction history stay visible to anyone who finds it.
Until today, it hasn't been possible to achieve both hardware cold storage and privacy.
Now, every transaction is confirmed and signed on your Ledger device's secure screen, while amounts, sender, and receiver stay private.
Your keys stay offline, and your balance stops being public information.

Historical note: Halo was the first zero-knowledge-proof system ever discovered that offered both of these two qualities — trustlessness and recursion — in one system. It was discovered by Sean Bowe (@ebfull) at the Electric Coin Co.

I keep thinking about this comment from roommatemusing: xitter.cf/roommatemusing/status/… I really agree with it. Zcash’s culture and institutions, including coin-holders, are inimitable, irreplaceable, and are the ongoing source of Zcash’s value. ⤵️
Zcash just retroactively self-funded $1.5m to the researcher who found and disclosed the Orchard bug via a permissionless coinholder vote administered by a Zcash non-profit. You can’t build these type of deep governance, institutional, and cultural systems overnight.
