Doing a PhD is - at heart - one long discussion with your mentor. The discussion changes over time - with unexpected turns and ups & downs - but through it all is a pair of people discussing a topic endlessly to make sense of it.
PhD students: choose someone you like to talk to!

No Frontiers, it does not matter how many emails you send me, I am not interested in contributing to your umpteenth fascinating article collection. I rather support societal journals.

Do singers hate their songs by the time they're done recording the same way that scientists hate their manuscripts before submitting?

The peer review process is broken. I just reviewed a short 5 figure manuscript for a journal with an IF~4. I was one of FIVE (!!) reviewers. The authors got 55 comments to address, including 22 from a single reviewer (3 from me). Will take years to revise. What are we doing?!
