It's normal for postdocs to use their contracts to pursue side projects in order to build independent academic careers, so firing a postdoc for doing research outside their narrow contract is going against long-standing practice, and could be used against anyone, for anything.

This is happening all over the world. Students use LLMs to solve projects/handins that teach them the basics of the subject.
Then exam/real world happens, which is more than the basics, and either LLMs can't do it or students can't because they haven't learned the basics.
