Reminder that I'm looking for a new role. I'm an experienced infrastructure engineer. I've worked with Kubernetes, Terraform, Postgres, AWS, with some Azure and GCP as well. I've also done a lot of valuable work as a backend engineer, having worked primarily in Haskell and Rust, though I've also gotten my hands dirty with Python, some Go, C++, and a bit of TypeScript. I've also had the privilege of being a public speaker, and have also lead training seminars for peers on how to use different tools, sharp edges to avoid, and getting them to a functional mental model of how things work quickly, so they can start to ask meaningful questions and debug problems on their own. I take ownership quickly, care deeply about reliability, correctness, and delivering quality service to customers. I say this up-front because this comes with a number of downsides, including: * I dislike shoddy work, buggy code, leaky abstractions, or flaky services. "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" is fine and well, but tech debt brings an aggressive drag coefficient to your business, and that fact gets swept under the rug far too often. * I don't optimize for shipping a ton of code quickly. I tend to be on the lower end of lines of code/sprint, and I'm not terribly keen on changing that. I write code to be maintainable, have clear invariants, be easy to refactor as business needs change, be easy to debug, and to quietly work while you're focus is elsewhere. I'm also a quick study, and have a long history of getting spun up quickly on the new parts of a stack I encounter at the various roles I've filled over the years. If this sounds like a good fit, please do drop me a line. I'd love to talk about how I can make your life better. thewizardtower.github.io/McC…

Remarkably well spoken. And completely correct.
Israel was right about this all along

Fuck them good and hard. May others follow suit.
This is a wild approach, @autodesk. We’re a small business paying $380 per user, per month. We’ve been paying customers for over a decade, and we make a deliberate effort to honor the license agreements for every product we use. Your software already requires authentication and an assigned license. What, specifically, prompted this email? Earlier today, I had two conversations on two separate podcast episodes about your direction with Fusion and why cloud-based API access makes sense for agentic MEP workflows. I was making the case for Autodesk. I think the product direction is right based on recent posts from @andrew_anagnost. Our company has been deciding where to invest our development effort: integrate our custom cloud agent harness into Autodesk, build on an open-source platform, or adopt one of the emerging cloud alternatives. That decision will lock in years of internal development and software spending. This decision is also central to our plans to expand @PermitZIP nationwide. An email like this becomes part of that decision. So does the time we have to spend responding to it.For more than a decade, we’ve paid for anywhere from 5 to 30 licenses each year. Autodesk is our single largest SaaS expense. This is a heck of a way to make our next platform decision easier. Starting next week, we’ll begin transitioning away from Autodesk products. We have nothing to hide and will cooperate with the audit. We’ll also be directing our future spending toward companies that earn our confidence as partners. I hope your audit goes well.

Who's doing it? It's either @NightdiveStudio or "Never Bought."
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines could be getting a remaster. A new rumor claims the 2004 cult-classic RPG is being brought back as a remaster, not a remake. Leaker Daimler_KKnD said: “I can confirm that it is in the works. NOT a remake, but a remaster, with some caveats. That’s all I can say.” The rumor also comes from industrial metal band Genitorturers, who reportedly told fans at a recent concert that a new Bloodlines project was in development. If true I hope it’s nor a remaster for the modern audience

I support capitalism because I want businesses competing to make themselves useful to me. “We’ve abolished your alternatives, but the remaining nationalized provider represents you” is a remarkably unconvincing upgrade.

If you’re old enough to vote & serve in the military, then you should also enjoy Second Amendment rights. This shouldn’t be controversial.

Only one of these resulted in a free, prosperous society.
The French Revolution was violent. The American revolution was violent. The Russian Revolution was violent. Freedom has never been won peacefully.

Downtown Santa Monica never recovered from the BLM riots by the way. Most of the shops on Third Street are gone. All the big brands left. The mall is empty 6 years later.

Stop buying this man’s products! He is erratic and dangerous, and no one person should have so much power. Stop buying Teslas. Stop using Starlink.

"It's only affecting the poors, what's the problem?" -- A progressive
To my American friends, entrepreneurs, investors: this is what Paris looks like today. Yes, yesterday's violence made it a sad day. But this is not the only thing France is about. France is beautiful, rebellious, entrepreneurial and the heart of Europe.

Ro Khanna, who’s worth $300 million, just basically said burning your city down is fine as long as it’s about “wealth inequality.” This is who the Democrats are. Don’t forget it.
From the high schools of France to the streets of Madrid to the universities of Tirana, young people are telling their governments the same thing: in an age of massive wealth inequality, they want a future they can believe in. In France, students and teachers are asking for safe schools, enough teachers and smaller classes. In Spain, for affordable rent and housing. In Albania, for good jobs and an end to corruption. @JDVance says this is what happens when a nation lets in too many immigrants from the global south. He is not just morally wrong, but misreading the moment. The is what happens when nations let wealth and power accumulate in the hands of a few. This is what happens when young people lose hope in their future. In America, let us listen to our young. We need an economic and political transformation. America's Next New Deal.
