Can’t deny it. As @PhilipJohnston puts it, Seattle has become the satellite production hub of the US 🇺🇸
K2 Space is excited to announce that we are opening an engineering hub in the greater Seattle region. Even better, we’re hiring!
Our Seattle-area office will be an engineering outpost powering the most capable satellites in commercial space. From flight software and autonomy to the low-level systems that drive our satellites’ most demanding workloads, this team will contribute to satellites operating at the edge of what’s possible.
In four years, our engineers have built and launched the most powerful dual channel Hall thrusters currently in orbit. We’re now scaling to produce hundreds of satellites by 2030, backed by over $500M raised and $1B in contracts. We’re looking for engineers excited to disrupt the industry, not maintain it.
Want to come build bigger with us? Check out our Seattle-area postings at k2space.com/careers.

Pleased to participate in a roundtable with some of the most prominent business professionals in the State of Washington, convened by Greater Seattle Partners (@SeattlePartners), a public-private regional economic development organization working to promote investment, trade, and economic growth in the Greater Seattle region.
Our discussion centered on expanding business and investment ties between Uzbekistan and the United States, with particular focus on innovation, technology, agriculture, logistics, green energy, and new opportunities for practical cooperation with Washington State – home to global companies such as Alaska Airlines, Amazon, Boeing, Costco, Microsoft, and Starbucks.

Seattle's economic story is a knowledge economy success story. Full stop.
Detroit's economic story is a declension narrative about deindustrialization and white flight (though to complicate matters, Detroit has recently been showing some signs of an economic comeback with a rejuvenated downtown and newly rising population).
To conflate the two cities' economic stories is laughably wrong and silly, and another glaring example of the disaffected, polarized online right's penchant for motivated reasoning.
While I agree that Seattle should not be knee jerk and ban data centers (the City is actually imposing a one year moratorium), Seattle's tax base these days is not "literally just the tech sector and nothing else" nor is it remotely true we "killed every other industry."
As the nation's second largest tech hub, it's true that tech is the biggest single part of the regional economy, accounting for just under a third of it. But the Seattle region still also has huge and thriving aerospace, retail, maritime, global trade and life sciences sectors.
Only three of our 10 biggest public companies are properly considered tech companies (this chart is from Greater @SeattlePartners 2025 Economic Overview):
