Here's what Approval Voting will look like here. It's:
Simple to understand and implement. St. Louis adopted AV in Nov, used in March: electionscience.org/press-re…
Far more representative than current ballots (or ranking): youtube.com/watch?v=7btAd1HY…, electionscience.github.io/vs…

Why do people support approval voting? For a lot of reasons, it turns out! One of the most common we hear is its simplicity and ability to build trust with voters.

National reform group Open Primaries sent a letter telling @SeattleCouncil "Don't manipulate the process."
"That kind of political manipulation is why so many Americans are cynical about the process."

Councilmember Sara Nelson comes out in support of election integrity, initiative integrity, and good governance.
As @CMSaraNelson wrote, "If Council is going to wield its authority on such a consequential matter, we should do so with transparency and careful deliberation."
It’s not good governance for @SeattleCouncil to vote on changing our election system without identifying the problem we’re trying to fix and carefully deliberating on best solutions. Read my full statement here: bit.ly/3uQhm7L

After years of inaction, the Council is suddenly considering putting their thumbs on the scale and rewriting the rules of their own elections.
Why? Some council members are afraid of a citizen-led voting reform initiative. – at Seattle, WA

Members of @SeattleCouncil are being pressured to “Put their thumb on the scale” by interfering with the election method that is used to elect them.
Will the Council meddle with their own elections for political gain?

and to our fellow Seattle residents, thank you for caring about democracy and helping make it happen.
Who stands between voters and voting reform? In St. Louis, where voters overwhelmingly voted to reform their elections, it's self-serving politicians. Accountability is a tough pill to swallow.
Here's @StLouisAmerican on how Approval Voting helped. From stlamerican.com/news/columni…:

ALT Screenshot of article: "The new approval voting system provides winners with a true mandate to govern by ensuring the person elected to office is also the person with the most support. Requiring broad electoral support to win elections means a more accountable, representative city government for the many, not just the few. Our old election system was plagued by vote splitting, spoiler candidates, and unrepresentative victories. The new system, in stark contrast, increases accountability and eliminates these barriers to entry for new candidates. Responsive officials and candidates who really work to serve the people rise to the top. Less popular candidates don’t win due to vote splitting."
