Scrt

a little yap about this topic: As a former player, I def understand where this sentiment stems from. I've felt the same many times in my short career. The older I get tho, the more I realize that the vitriol discussions of players/teams/orgs are all part of the experience and is necessary. Excluding obvious hateful messages or threats, I actually think that VLR/Reddit discussions about players/teams plays a major role in the ecosystem and product. Esports is an entertainment sport (and marketing for publishers, but discussion for another time kek). The profitability of VAL largely depends on viewership and long-term fan engagement. Match results (competitiveness) is a big factor (obvs) but a major part of esports are the narratives, storylines, and the rise/fall of players/teams AND the discussions of these stories & results among viewers and the community. Unfortunately for players, extreme performances (good and bad) are often easy talking points for the community. Yes, there are many reasons why players perform good or bad but from a shallow POV, its fun to talk about as a casual viewer. I know it can be a challenge for players to ignore these public discussions, but they are healthy and necessary for the long-term benefit of the game and scene. tl;dr: VLR/Redditors yapping about players is necessary and a part of the industry.
