This folio has had a hard life: ravaging Divs and old repairs. Wrinkles formed during couching visible in transmitted light.

Sorting out a thing on naturalism and I have been looking at the Carrara Herbal of 1390-1400 and its is bafflingly anachronistic - I mean it isn't (that's just my perception of it) but 1390-1400...?!

THE BORDER FRAME doesn't look like interlace at first, but no matter how decorated the strands may be, they weave under and over one another, and so qualify as yet another of the billion-or-so creative variations on the theme. There are simpler knotworks with a similar structure.
This is one of our most spectacular bindings. A composite MS and printed book copy of the Reformation work Einfältiges Bedenken, the volume was bound for the library of King Henry VIII! (@NewCollegeOx, MS 136)
