Texas is blaming the NWS for the weather changing from the original forecast. The 3 satellites that DoD stopped allowing NOAA to access data from on June 30, were specifically designed to monitor rapid intensification like what occurred. If you want to point fingers, start there.

Here's a wild stat: An astonishing 23% of the Contiguous U.S. was at least 5°F above normal for the entire Meteorological Winter 2023-2024. Only 1% was below normal.

I sometimes shy away from showing models beyond 7 days out... I know it can be beneficial to have the extra heads up. But I also know that snow is a touchy subject, so I don't wanna disappoint.
