Movie 5: City of God 2002
The first 25 minutes of this movie could’ve won the Oscar for best short film.
And the full movie should’ve won best foreign language film at the Oscars in 2002
All of these characters felt so real.
Had me absolutely locked in.
Beautiful and brutal in equal measure.
The best way I can describe it???
This film eats most films for breakfast, lunch and dinner…
The Orlando Magic played awesome basketball this evening.
Paolo and Franz both looked really dangerous.
And they are actually making some shots 🥹
Movie 4: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Miyazaki’s second feature film.
The fact that this is such a beautifully weird, post apocalyptic world thats as easily
digestible for kids and adults alike is an amazing cinematic achievement.
We get mushroom spore jungles, building sized bugs, medieval knights with machine guns, rival warring clans, and sci-fi gliders.
And it all comes together in an almost peaceful way that only studio Ghibli is known for.
We also get to see this world through the eyes of a clever, fun, and bad ass heroin as the cherry on top.
Keep making creative kids animation!
Long live Nausicaä!

Guillermo Del Toro just reposted my review of his film on his own profile.
Do I ascend and go to heaven at this point?
Movie 3: Pan’s Labyrinth
What a deceptively dark film this is.
I was very impressed with Mr. Del Toro’s effort to weave a beautiful, creative fairytale into a very serious war drama.
It is a classic Good vs. Evil story.
The compassionate are fighting against a world that rewards the cruel and the obedient.
It looks like a story about a little girl discovering a magical world, but it’s really about innocence trying to survive brutal violence.
Don’t expect many laughs…
And without spoiling it, the results/ending of this movie did leave a bittersweet taste in my mouth.
But I do know one thing…
I have never watched a film that looks like this one.
7.7/10
You can see everything
Your mother, your mother, your mother
Fjord
Wildwood
Whalefall
Only living pickpocket in New York
I will be feasting at the theaters over these next couple weeks
4 Takeaways here…
1. HOF MIKE is still elite at 33. First ballot at this point?
2. Josh Downs standing out with JSN, Ceedee, Garrett Wilson, and Drake London was not on my bingo card.
3. Free Elic Ayomanor and Jauan Jennings.
4. Rashee Rice and MHJ. I’m concerned.
I’m in my local Apple Store. I just watched a grown man hack a big old loogie and then proceeded to spit it out in the corner like it was his own backyard.
WTF who thinks that’s okay?
I might have created perfection in the All22Pokemon builder
A few honorable mentions….
Onix as a DE/DT
Kabutops/Primeape at OLB
Beedrill/Aerodactyl at CB
Rapidash at HB
Mr Mime was definitely a thought as well.
Final roster cuts are always the hardest 😅
Movie 2: Red Rock West (1993) is a Cowboy Neo Noir staring Nicolas Cage, Dennis Hopper, Laura Flynn Boyle and J.T. Walsh…
What a fun premise this movie has. The setup is perfect. Totally believable yet felt completely new.
Had me hooked within 10 minutes.
But once Dennis Hopper shows up, this is when the movie really shifts into high gear.
There’s always one more twist than you think.
And revelations continue to appear right up to the final frame.
Red Rock West really kept me on my toes.
All in an hour and 38 minutes.
One thing I would change?
The film’s tonal changes sometimes catches you off guard.
It could be jokey one minute and deathly serious the next.
But the movie and actors are so confident in their execution that it’s easily forgiven 👍🫡
Very glad to have it as part of the collection overall.
