That COVID can wake up the EBV is old news - one of the most repeated findings in long COVID. A new preprint asks the next question.
What does the woken virus do to your B cells?
It rebuilds them into a state we've mostly seen in lupus and multiple sclerosis - and that state tracks with autoantibodies.🧵

EBV+ B cells shifted toward glycolysis and away from fat burning, while signaling to activate B and CD4+ T cells.
Higher levels tracked with autoantibodies and later symptoms.

If you're funded by NIH or NSF, the new White House science report and its budget annex are worth your time. They set the direction for the next few years and annex has a lot of specific detail.

HHMI released the official 2027 Gilliam Fellowship details, and a lot changed. Deadline's earlier this cycle: Oct 27. Int'l & MD-PhD students now eligible. Stipend up to 50K. New postdoc pathway adds up to 7 yrs of support. No Journal names!!!!
