The 3-in-1 mirror isn't the best for this - the long focal length and short height relative makes it difficult to see the images. The steel cylindrical mirrors from Sargent-Welch work well, so my students use both.

@pascoscientific 3-in-1 mirror held to a wood clipboard with a pair of magnets allows bringing the system to eye level for direct observation after predicting the image with a ray-tracing diagram. I give the students the ray parallel to the axis - I always hated drawing that one.

Grades were never intended to be data. Standardized assessments are where you get data. Grades are first and foremost a method of social control, rewarding "good" and punishing "bad". Grades might be useful for suggesting readiness for the next grade/course, but that's dubious.
EdTech is a huge improvement for teaching the physical sciences, and continues to improve rapidly. Tech should only be purchased for use where it will help, but that would cut into sales commissions and kickbacks to admin/boards.

Add some people realizing that they can use the situation for financial and political gain throwing violent rhetoric at the public, and you get what we have now.

Combined with the tension between schools trying to teach about the world and the desire of some parents to rigidly control every thought in their child's head, you have the set-up for where we are now.

Since the mid 1980's "A Nation at Risk" publication here's been a concerted and successful political propaganda campaign portraying public schools as bad and a waste of money, resulting in a new combativeness between schools and families in many communities.

There are plenty of places where housing costs are high enough that 100k for a family of four is not going to be enough to live decently.
Replying to @TreasuryBonds1 @DecadeInvestor
Depends on where you're trying to live. I wouldn't want to try to live on my own in Manhattan, New York on 100K, but I bet living as a family of four in Manhattan, Kansas on 100K would be solidly middle class.

Not arguing the point, but the numbers aren't there for it to matter statistically.

Dude. Best idea for PD ever. Buy a keg or twelve. Retention spikes and money rolls in. STFU and you're an edu-guru long enough to lose it all in Vegas. I may be in Vegas and completely social (alcohol may be involved, but is irrelevant to the topic.)
